Trump blames Spanish Flu for ending Second World War — 2 decades later

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday blamed the Spanish Flu for ending the Second World War — which didn’t start until two decades later — during a press briefing on the coronavirus pandemic.

The president mixed up his world wars, misstating the year of the Spanish Flu and doubling the estimated death toll from that pandemic while trying to factually compare it to COVID-19.

“Nobody’s ever seen anything like this,” Trump said during the briefing. “The closest thing was in 1917 they say, right? The Great Pandemic — and it certainly was a terrible thing where they lost anywhere from 50 to 100 million people. It probably ended the Second World War. All the soldiers were sick. It was a terrible situation.”

COMMENT:-

Failed World History 12 did he?

PS - I note that he didn't mention that the "Spanish" Flu was first discovered in the US (in the person of an American serviceman who had never left the continental United States of America).

This is the same guy that "informed" us about the airfields we took in the revolutionary war. This isn't a Gaffe, this is Trump.

It's pretty funny that so many people have written entire articles based on the fact that he misspoke by 1 number. This reminds me of when Biden said that 120 million people have been killed by the Covid-19.

Ironically, Newsweek's article ridiculing the president for this originally claimed that the Spanish Flu killed 500 million people, and they had to put out a retraction. That, mind you, happened in an article that was written, presumably edited, and then published by a supposedly professional news organization. It wasn't in an off-the-cuff comment.

The debates are going to be a gaffe-riot.

I mean, the Cultists want to jump on Biden for his gaffes, but really I think Trump has him beat at every turn. Can't remember where his dad is from, constantly misspeaking or lying, saying **** like this. I mean, at least he was close on the time frame of the Spanish Flu, though apparently completely forgot when WW II happened.

I wonder if Republicans would use that as evidence exhibit A for senility if Biden said that.

I think we all know by now that Trump is a retard, unless of course, you too are a retard.

I'm surprised, surprised to find that derangement is going on in Trump’s head! (But we need Him for one more SC appointment).

The man who thinks it's pronounced "Thigh Land" and "Yo! Semite!". The man who thinks he's a genius for remembering 5 words in the correct order. The man who believes windmills are giving him cancer. We could go on and on.

Donald Trump is absolutely the most ignorant world leader....in history.

Leave Trump alone. He got confused. I saw the interview. Yes he makes mistakes , but your economy and the amount of unemployed was going great until this china virus. He delivered on his promises. That's already better than any president before him. Bush was a joke. Obama, ha,ha,ha. A bigger joke.

Thigh land? Really?
Well, in the circles he moves in that might be how Bangkok is referred to.

When did Mexico pay for the wall? When did his new healthcare plan roll out? When did he de-nuclearize NK? When did he reduce the National Debt? Never mind, I can go on but you will just ignore it time and time again. No, he didn't deliver on his promises. He is a CONSTANT liar and corrupt president.

The thing about Trump is the truth is just not relevant to him. If he thinks a statement works for him, makes him look good, he'll say it and never consider whether that statement is true or not. He's claimed credit for the VA Choice Act about 100 times, Obama signed it, he knows this and doesn't care - it's just not relevant to him.

You are now moving the goal posts. You said he delivered on his promises and he didn't. So you were lying. As usual. Obama didn't say he was "in love" with dictators while attacking US intelligence agencies and allies. Trump is an anti-American douchebag and his supporters are ****ing retarded or they are corruption supporting anti-americans.

Despite the rumours - even those supported by documentary evidence such as

TrumpIn Uniform.jpg

Mr. Trump was NOT the SCAFW (Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces Worldwide) during WWII, so WWII isn't really all that important to him.

According to Mr. Trump, the "Manhattan Project" was headed by Peter Minute (who gave up his position as CEO of Minute-Tune[sup]®[/sup] to take on that task).

WWI vs WWII is a misspeak that really any of us could have done. That the Trumpanzis would rattle their cages and scream had a Democrat made a similar mistake doesn't justify doing the same.

Randomly, it's possible that the flu actually caused WWII. Wilson came down with a very severe case of the flu while on route to negotiating the treaty of Versailles. He suffered from hallucinations and experienced significant permanent mental degradation. Germany surrendered based on the assumption that Wilson would be a strong proponent of a fair reconciliation governed by his 14 points. Instead Wilson was a shockingly feeble negotiator and was completely bulldozed by the French and English. Had Wilson not gotten the flu then the post Great War world could have looked very different. Hell, it's unlikely that anyone alive today would have ever have been born. Sometimes the world turns on a dime.
