Trump 2020 campaign moves to crush any challengers to president by changing Republican party rules | The Independent

Donald Trump’s re-election campaign is trying to change party rules to prevent his Republican rivals from challenging the president in 2020.

The battle to secure the GOP nomination, described by aides as the “most aggressive ever launched”, involves a state-by-state effort to crush internal opposition ahead of the election.

Gotta love the admission that Trump is so awful that he needs to be protected from his own party if he's to have any chance of winning re-election.

They have a candidate. The president. They dont need any more politically correct losers who seek to “Lose with honor” like John McCain - the last token loser, post Romney.

A sign of extraordinary brittleness within the Republican Party.

Yes. Part of the same phenomenon which made the RNC think they needed to issue a statement about how they had "undivided support" for Trump for 2020 and how "effective" his presidency has been. If he really had undivided support, and if he was really effective in a positive way, they wouldn't have needed to make that announcement a year before the primaries started. They're nervous. They would be stupid not to be nervous, and while they may be craven, they're not stupid.

If Trump is the best GOP candidate available, why does he need RNC protection from being primaried?
