He said, "they [the victims] deserve more than thoughts and prayers."

I think that's a poke at our evangelicals.

I don't know if the next prime minister can overturn this law.

It's also a poke at your pro gun lobby group.

The next prime minister can but they would take into account the general mood of the voter. Unlike america canada actually has a system where voting can influence politicians.

Swing_voter:

Legally it can be reversed, politically I'm not so sure. The Liberal Government used an order in council (a cabinet decree) to enact this ban and any future government could simply cancel the order in council, if it wanted to. Should Mr. Trudeau's minority government fall within the next two years (during the amnesty/grace period) then it would be a straight-forward process for a new government to undo this. However Canadians would probably not support such a revocation and thus the ban may survive.

Cheers and be well.

Canadians can inform me on this, but I don't believe Canada has a "constitutional" equivalent to our Second Amendment.

Thus there is no clear prohibition/limitation on what the Central government can do in this regard.

In any case, the reaction/response is up to Canadians. It's their nation, not ours.

is it not a God Given Right in Canada too?

I prefer having a constitution where the whims of the stupid are not harnessed by pimps in office to pretend they are doing something.

Says the man who lives in a country where the nra can buy politicians.

At your next high school shooting be sure to send prayers and thoughts because that is all you will ever do.

Unlike you I don't believe in trampling constitutional rights and harassing millions of people to pretend we have done something. I prefer that those who engage in mass shootings are quickly shot by an armed citizen, or that they die in jail.

No, it is a freedom matter and different people view freedom differently. The ultimate form of freedom is self determination.

hang on. my whole life i've heard/read that it's a God Given Right. is it only a God Given Right in some countries?

CaughtinThe:

It depends on which priests and which god(s) you observe and worship. In parts of America the gun is God in my opinion and the priests are armed zealots..

Cheers and be well.

No, it is a God given right only in the mind of low intellect uneducated morons who have no clue what are rights. Most of them are, ironically, on the right. If we went by such reasoning then owning slaves would be a God given right along with polygamy.

And, per usual, the misdeeds of one cause an all powerful government to trample the rights of all...and the people cheer for their new found "freedom".

Pimps such as Trudeau, want to pander and pretend they are DOING SOMETHING.

Why ?

I don't know if the next prime minister can overturn this law.

Sure they could but they'd have to go against the Canadian people

And why would he/she want to ?

Why would he/she want to basically give the green light to another mass shooting like the one that just happened in Nova Scotia ?

And thank you for once again proving that the problem is not the gun but instead is americans like you who think that a right to a gun is a right to kill.

No, canadian has lost the freedom to own or use a gun. They have merely given their consent to demonstrate that canada, unlike america and unlike your view, will not tolerate violence and guns as a solution to problems.

TD thinks a similar move in the USA would result in civil war. Are there any such fears there ?

why do you lie-no one has asserted that the right to own a gun is a right to kill. In OUR country, you normally have the right to defend yourself to STOP harmful violent action that reasonably could be seen as causing severe physical harm,

Canada's leader has demonstrated that he likes to make symbolic gestures that cost him little so he can pander to morons.

Why do you call Trudeau a "pimp"

Does he have any proven past connection with prostitution ?

Pimps pander to people, Trudeau is a Pimp.

Not in new zealand, the majority back the decision to an assault rifles. TD hopes masturbates over the idea of a civil war.

Half or more Canadians support the ban as do 70% of Americans.

I believe this decision will be appealed if the next prime minister can't overturn this law. And I don't believe it's a poke at evangelicals, after every mass shooting, everyone in all religions say the exact same thing.

It's the same in America, except that after a mass shooting and listening to the "thoughts and prayers" line, nothing will change. It'll be the same after our next mass shooting, prayers and thoughts and after that? Get get over it...

you seem orgasmic over the hope that American gun owners are oppressed. If you want to live disarmed as a subject, so be it. We don't crave that sort of nanny state here.

The people who actually push this crap know it won't stop mass shootings-but they don't care. Just as almost every supporter of gun bans on this board is a leftwing activist, the same is true of those who push gun bans in the USA. It is not intended to control crime but rather harass gun owners.
