March 1 (UPI) -- A rally in Washington, D.C. Tuesday, modeled after the "Freedom Convoy" that occupied Ottawa for more than a week, failed to draw substantial crowds.

The rally drew fewer than a hundred people to the Washington Monument Tuesday, to protest COVID-19 restrictions, the Washingtonian reported.

Truckers also caused havoc at a Canadian border crossing between Michigan and Ontario, disrupting cross-border travel, including commercial goods.

This comes after a contingent of truckers -- also slated to arrive Tuesday -- fizzled over a lack of participation and was eventually canceled, The New York Times reported. It counted five trucks among its ranks when it arrived in Las Vegas on Saturday. The Freedom Convoy USA 2022 originally left California Feb. 23 for the 11-day trip.

COMMENT:-

Inside sources report that the crappy turnout was caused by a failure of the supply chain to deliver sufficient Maple Syrup and Poutine and an oversupply of wimps.

So Biden put up the chain link wall around the Capital again for naught. Figures.

Well, can you blame him for accepting the word of thousands of ordinary Americans that they were fed up and to show that they weren't going to take it any more were going to stage the jhugest mass demonstration in the history of the United States of America in Washington DC?

Problems with enough trucks to deliver goods, yet some truckers decide to play Patrick Henry instead.

they did not have a beef to start with......it was just a right wing stunt that Fox tried to portray as some kind of cultural revolution.....everybody knew it was bs

No surprise here. Given the Democrats dismal polling numbers, even the bitter clingers are dropping their mandates to try to stop the bleeding. No need to protest an issue you're already winning.

Probably realised what an awful look it was with the backdrop of Ukraine.

we are at a low point in the pandemic. of course we can relax a bit. This is NO surprise, but you already knew that.

It seems a lot of people don't realize this protest convoy consists of several groups. While some have died off, the largest group is still headed to DC. They're in Indiana today and will continue on tomorrow. Their ETA is Fri-Sat.

We want to restore liberty and freedom guided by the Constitution of the United States,” Brase said

Playing revolutionary hero again. *YAWN*

Just more proof how pathetic right wingers are, nothing but childish mudslinging.

whine about masks and mandates during height of pandemic, now whine when restrictions lifted as things wind down (for now at least0 and they do exactly what they were bitching about

They really are a joke

The ~100 semis in the "Freedom Convoy" make up about 0.005% of the semis in the United States of America.

Issues related to truckers, poor pay, working conditions benefits, etc don't seem to be on their agenda, giving the right-wing an opportunity to support "the working class." And support them they are.

Its pretty sad that you fellows can't just enjoy the restoring of these little freedoms, but have to grouse about your political opponents. You guys seem to be in a perpetual state of disgruntlement.

I love asking them to equate their support for the working class truckers with their wish to close the southern border. They don't seem to get it. 😊

Whatever the %, the point is the main convoy is still in route. A lot of people don't realize this wasn't just one convoy which is demonstrated each time one of these threads pop up. I believe this is the 3rd one. So I'm just offering clarification.

I guess that now it is time for 'hopes and prayers' that another wave isn't just over the horizon.

Those "Issues related to truckers, poor pay, working conditions benefits, etc" that don't seem to be on their agenda they could address through either unionization or by finding better employers.

My ladyfriend used to do the books for a trucking company were management actually paid good wages, actually maintained their trucks and trailers, and actually allotted an actually reasonable time for their drivers to complete their trips (legally, safely, within the transport regulations, and allowing for necessary pee and meal breaks) and STILL returned a nice profit to the owners. The drivers for that company were (almost) never stopped by transportation safely inspectors and were (almost) routinely waved through weigh stations because the relevant authorities knew that that company maintained its vehicles and did not allow their trailers to be loaded beyond listed capacity. The company also dispatched replacement rigs as soon as it learned that one of its trucks had become unable to continue its trip and that meant that it also had fewer late delivery penalties to pay. That company was NOT unionized because the unions could not guarantee that their "standard industry contract" would provide even the same working conditions for the drivers as the company already provided.

ASIDE - As an amusing historical note, One of the trucks (at the BC Trucking Museum [operated by the Teamsters' Union]) was never put in service. That would be the 1946 Maple Leaf 3-ton, which was part of the Aubrey ‘Bob’ King Collection donated to the province following the death of the eccentric millionaire who once controlled trucking in and out of Vancouver with six companies. The truck has been driven only 77 miles. Why this is amusing is that Mr. King flatly refused the demand by the Teamsters' Union to arbitrarily enroll all of his drivers into that union and simply shut down all of his operations overnight. The museum staff don't really like to talk about that truck.

Of course, That's what it is. Next some rightist will come here pointing at the relaxing mandates and say, "See? Told you so! They're finally admitting that none of that was ever necessary!"

next up on the childish posts, " see how trump got them to remove the mandates?"

They should use their diesel money to send care packages to Ukraine.
