Soldiers Face Neglect, Frustration at Army's Top Medical Facility By Dana Priest and Anne Hull The Washington Post Sunday 18 February 2007

Behind the door of Army Spec. Jeremy Duncan's room, part of the wall is torn and hangs in the air, weighted down with black mold. When the wounded combat engineer stands in his shower and looks up, he can see the bathtub on the floor above through a rotted hole. The entire building, constructed between the world wars, often smells like greasy carry-out. Signs of neglect are everywhere: mouse droppings, belly-up cockroaches, stained carpets, cheap mattresses.
What's going on at Walter Reed is disgusting! We all here until our ears are numb, "Support the Troops, support the troops", but then do we support them AFTER their troops?

We need to improve in this area, bigtime!

I am amazed that this article was only posted TODAY. It is appalling, and I hope Congress and this Administration start investigating why our wounded are in such shabby conditions. What the hell is going on here? I'm so glad that the Republicans think tax cuts are a good idea when we have wounded soldiers living in this kind of situation. Nice.

This is good - just reported by Jackson Diehl - The Washington Post - Prince Bandar bin Sultan of Saudi Arabia runs U.S. Foriegn policy. Old Bush Family friend. Can you even imagine the kick backs from high oil prices this relationship genereates.

This isn't new, it's been happening for quite awhile. I could tell you some horror stories. Unfortunately there's always lots of political rhetoric around the troops but not much real life in depth reporting on what is happening within the troops to the people who are the troops themselves.
This is a national shame. I hope this articles brings more people to reality but I'm too cynical to think anyone in the civilain world actually wants to think about the troops other then as a political talking point.

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the men and women of the United States Armed Forces and their families.

FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (Army News Service, Jan. 30, 2007) - Thanks to the generosity of 600,000 Americans, wounded warriors now have a $50 million state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation facility.

Here's a list of contributors. I quickly scanned the list and some of the names might surprise you.

One of the biggest critics of this administration is Don Imus, of 'Imus In the Morning' TV (MSNBC) and radio show. You'll find his name at the top of the list. He also did his show live during the dedication ceremony. This shows that you can do something more than putting a sticker on the back of your SUV to support the troops.

I didn't bring up the contributor list to get into a p/ssing match about who gave and who didn't (I feel that's a private matter), but rather to show once again that you can be against this war and support the troops.

As helpful as non-profit organizations like this are, and as much as $50 million dollars has done to help build this center, they can't compare to what the government can do, and has an obligation to do, to meet the needs of our wounded soldiers (rehab and workforce placement) AND the women and children of those who weren't so 'lucky' to return home.

The U.S. Soldier is the greatest soldier in the world. They will follow orders to the letter and not question them, as they should. It is the U.S. elected representatives that have the Constitutional Authority to direct the U.S. Military. We the People of the United States Have failed our soldiers. It is our fault. Eat your crap sandwich and shut up.
