The Trade War, which is 100% Trump's doing, is beginning to be felt and repercussions are to follow.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-12-25/world-economy-is-set-to-feel-the-delayed-trade-war-pain-in-2019?srnd=premium

That article seems to be more focused on OTHER country's economic woes. What little in the article that involved US companies was about those companies foreign trade.

To be sure, trade with other countries is important, but I'd say trade within our own country is much more important right now. So...in that light, here's a story about AMERICAN economic conditions.

Shoppers delivered the strongest holiday sales increase for U.S. retailers in six years, according to early data.

Total U.S. retail sales, excluding automobiles, rose 5.1% between Nov. 1 and Dec. 24 from a year earlier, according to Mastercard SpendingPulse, which tracks both online and in-store spending with all forms of payment. Overall, U.S. consumers spent over $850 billion this holiday season, according to Mastercard.

[…] Retailers entered the holidays with momentum as online sales jumped 26.4% from a year earlier between the Wednesday before Thanksgiving through Black Friday.

[…] Sales at department stores fell 1.3% in the period tracked by Mastercard, in part due to store closings. Stores that mainly sell apparel, however, experienced robust sales, growing 7.9% during the same period. Overall, sales from bricks-and-mortar stores rose 3.3%.

And for those who aren't doing so well (farmers who export), we've got free gubmint cheese!

Talk to the Chinese. All they have to do is stop stealing our tech.

So they stopped buying US soybeans because they were stealing our tech? Odd reaction.

So nothing happened in between, just a to b?

Oh, certainly things happened. So what?

I was remarking in response to your comment about how China's reaction was odd.

If you have something to say about what happened in between, then say it. I'll remark on that, too.

Why did the Chinese stop buying US soybeans? Was it because of intellectual theft, or for some other reason?

it was fairly predictable and pretty stupid. when you have an economy that has been growing steadily and doing pretty well for nine years, ****ing with it at all is going to spook the casino gamblers enough to generate a correction or even a recession. of course, he'll just blame the fed and Democrats somehow, and his cult will follow suit. even though the good economy that he inherited is now his sole doing somehow, any negative movement won't be his fault.

Seriously, you don't know why they stopped buying US soybeans? Could it have anything to do with what you don't call a trade war? Or is it just Trump making deals?

Good. Let’s halt all trade with all Chinese based Corporations. We can always continue to do business with other corporations who have sattilite offices in China.

CGP is a consulting firm for shopping mall operators. Ain't no way on EARTH someone in that field will ever say something that scares mall operators because his entire job consists of reassuring mall operators that their malls are relevant, in the Age of Amazon, no less.
When Americans go to shopping malls to buy stuff, do you actually think they aren't buying stuff made in foreign countries?
That IS "trade with other countries". We are buying stuff made in third world countries, and we're buying it in shopping malls.
The only thing that's American is the building all those customers are walking around in.

I want some of what you're smoking.

And yet, that is their reaction.

They just purchased millions of tons of American soybeans, it was a thread right here on DP, get new reading glasses.
But before you rush out to Lenscrafters, to buy a new pair of glasses (most likely made in China or Italy) please know that this may be the last US soybean purchase they make for a while.

Is that what your Google aggregator tells you, we were doing pretty well for nine years?

Moving on...

You have a real problem getting your comments to apply to the posts you are responding to, don't you?

This is your second one.

And that will cut their own throat.

Nope not really. China is a command state economy. Xi gives the order and a five year austerity plan commences, and Chinese people, even the wealthy, curtail their living standards, just enough to cause pain to the US.
What you don't understand about Chinese philosophy about dealing with hostile players is a lot.
