Seriously. This has the same feel as the folks who look at clouds and see faces or familiar shapes. Both of the newer variants have been around for months and have been spreading in much the same way others have, so it was bound to show up in the US. Given that we haven't had any lockdowns or changes to policy regardless of the recent upticks, the implication is that this is somehow "convenient" in that vein. Unless these new variants start sending people to the hospital en masse, I expect not much will change in terms of mitigation policy or general behavior.

It isn't fear porn, whatever that may be. If honest, most people here and around the world, and far removed from US elections, are keeping an eye on health reports and numbers. But as we see, again and again, it is partisans who seek to sensationalize reports as they fit their pov.

We've been in the middle of continued infections, but nothing has really changed and doesn't seem likely to change unless things get dramatically worse. People should be aware of new variants, but whether or not they require any mitigation measures anywhere near to what we saw at the beginning of the pandemic depends on how bad people get sick.

In Michigan, where Covid has hit hard and never waned, it's basically become a public health crisis, whereas here in California I can't even remember when a new case of covid has been announced.

I think it means instead of Democrats getting off their asses and actually heading to polls, which many of them don’t, ballot harvesters will be passing out and collecting ballots by the truckload, and they will be accepted weeks past the normal legal deadline, thanks to another “Covid emergency.” Basically, it’s a setup to steal this election, just like they did the last one.

Seriously, if you want to vote, then get your ass to the polls, and have the votes tabulated with a machine that will register an actual vote, not have ballots marked by hand, handled by paid harvesters, and then delivered to warehouses where humans make a determination on who voted for what. Absentee voting should be permitted in only limited circumstances. I voted "absentee" once, and I still had to go to the country clerk's office to file an affidavit stating that I'd be out of state on election day. Then I had to vote there, at the courthouse, where the ballot was handled only by a single court employee and placed into a sealed box. We have no issues with our voting, and we usually know the winner anywhere from minutes to a few hours after the polls close. I have faith in our process.
