It's kind of difficult to say what world Senator Cotton lives in if he honestly believes America has an "under incarceration" problem on it's hands. We are roughly 4.2% of the world population, but have more than 20% of the total prisoners. Perhaps this goes back to the Republican line of thinking that the main issue with gun violence is that we need more guns? Of course, we are also talking about a man who wanted to deploy the military on people protesting for racial justice last summer, so I guess he is being consistent, if nothing else.

Whether at home or abroad, imagine if America put as much effort into fixing the causes of our problems as we do looking for more violent, backwards thinking solutions to "solve" them that never actually work and end up creating even more headaches.

Republicans love freedom for only them. And, if the mass incarceration programs they champion snare more black people, the better it is for them as well.

Wasn't that the same thinking behind the '90s crime bill Biden has taken so much flak for?

5% of the global population, 40% of the globes incarcerated people. Sen. Cotton thinks he can be mini-orange and win the presidency.

I agree with him. Let's start by sending Trump and his spawn to prison.

It really bothers you that America's cities aren't even more violent and unlivable, doesn't it?

how many privatized prisons is Cotton invested in otherwise why would anyone say such a stupid group of words?

Guess what races he's thinking of incarcerating? Just another way to prevent them voting.

BS.

Your current president bragged about getting "predators" off the streets.

If your prison system and society has evolved in such a way that certain categories of people are for more likely to get arrested/imprisoned for the same acts as other categories of people, and the certain categories of people also tend to vote Democrat....

....and you're Tom ****ing Cotton....

...then yes, you might see a very good reason to become even more of a prison state.

Go ask Joe Biden all about his 1994 crime bill that he bragged about so many times.

The real issues are inner city crime and our revolving door criminal justice system.

Carry your ass out on the street and stop the crimes if you are that concerned.

And white collar crimes puts all other crimes to shame especially those on capitol hill such as more than 560,000 dead COVID victims , millions of small business employees out of work and thousands of small business people out of business and all of the other crimes Rump and the radical right wing nuts commit and the USPS scandal ongoing, etc etc etc

this list may still grow until midnight

Tom Cotton is a ****ing sociopath. If we had a decent government, that cockroach would never be allowed to serve for anything.

Don't like the rate of incarceration? Have fewer people commit crimes. It's really simple. Fewer people commit crimes, fewer arrests, fewer convictions and fewer incarcerations. Doesn't that logically follow?

BTW didn't the FBI reports indicate that crime rates were at an all time low until last year or perhaps year before last? Before all the leftist riots started?

Defunding the police sure doesn't seem to be the utopian answer for solving the increasing crime problem that some have promised.
Lowering standards is never solution to anything, except just hiding the reality.

How much money does he receive from prison PACS and the police unions?

The US has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world but if we expunged the conviction of who used weed and other harmless drugs then we would have a lot more room for the white supremacists, Neo-nazis, and the Jan 6th supporters. I might be able to support that idea.......

man, a Republican with a custom reality and a microphone? who could have predicted that?

If you think the people in prison dont belong there, perhaps you will open up your home to a couple of them.

Do you equate lowering crime with incarcerating more?

how many privatized prisons is Cotton invested in otherwise why would anyone say such a stupid group of words?

You have any evidence he has done so?

As long as we have crime we need prison cells for those who commit those crimes.

I agree with you.
There should be nationwide bail reform like in New York. If you are arrested for the 120th time, you don't have to stay in jail. You can also leave jail after having five pending felonies and go kill a 93 year old woman.
And why should we put people in jail for property crimes. So what if someone smashes your car window and grabs your pursue. It's just property.
Anybody who feels crime should be punishable is a moron.

You want to start fixing the causes of the problem. Let's start with BLM. First of all instead of calling for eliminating the nuclear family, they should speak out about the importance of the family. The black community has 70% single parent homes.
BLM should also talk about the importance of education and jobs.

Cotton called for the national guard to be called to the cities during the summer. I guess citizens didn't want anymore businesses burned or looted. That moron mayor of Minneapolis. I have no clue why he would call out the National Guard. The peaceful protesters had not finished burning down the city. Did they get past George Floyd's neighborhood?

Speaking of guns, which you did. Are we talking about legal guns or illegal guns? Let's see illegal guns were used in over 65% of gun violence. Let's see over half of the 14K that were killed by guns was due to black on black crime. You know the women and children that BLM is so concerned with in the black communities.
