Trump was going to extradite Fathullah Gulen, a rival of Erdogan and a green card holder in Pennsylvania since the late 1990's, to Turkey in order to placate Erdogan into assisting in the coverup of Jamal Khashoggi's murder.

Res ipsa loquitur.

WASHINGTON — The White House is looking for ways to remove an enemy of Turkish President Recep Erdogan from the U.S. in order to placate Turkey over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, according to two senior U.S. officials and two other people briefed on the requests.

Trump administration officials last month asked federal law enforcement agencies to examine legal ways of removing exiled Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen in an attempt to persuade Erdogan to ease pressure on the Saudi government, the four sources said.

The effort includes directives to the Justice Department and FBI that officials reopen Turkey's case for his extradition, as well as a request to the Homeland Security Department for information about his legal status, the four people said.

Career officials at the agencies pushed back on the White House requests, the U.S. officials and people briefed on the requests said.

"At first there were eye rolls, but once they realized it was a serious request, the career guys were furious," said a senior U.S. official involved in the process.

It's safe to assume this was leaked for the purpose of nipping this in the bud lest Trump move ahead with the decision anyway.

So why does Trump do so much to defend the most regressive country on Earth and home of radical Islam? Could it be money perhaps?

Just another day in the Trumpland

They could release the cleric to the Turkish consulate in Riyadh; biblical justice?

/sarcasm before the slings and arrows!

I heard that the cleric has a Green Card. So here is the story on that:

Your Rights as a Permanent Resident

As a permanent resident (green card holder), you have the right to:

Live permanently in the United States provided you do not commit any actions that would make you removable under immigration law
Work in the United States at any legal work of your qualification and choosing. (Please note that some jobs will be limited to U.S. citizens for security reasons)
Be protected by all laws of the United States, your state of residence and local jurisdictions

So he would be entitled to due process. I doubt any judge would agree to have him deported. There would be a big uproar.

So comforting to know our president doesn't value human rights. I wonder if Trump supporters are capable of making the connection between the rights of others and their rights, when he makes decisions concerning them.

I wonder if trump supporters have quite caught on to the fact that he'd condemn any one of them to torture and death for an immediate short term gain.

Remember when Republicans thought the black guy was too nice to Saudi Arabia and then Trump literally pawns off a human being in order to help SA get away with murder.

Or just even a photo op.

But Obama once said 57 states! He identified with Trayvon Martin! He met people growing up around politics and activists! Yeah, and remember when he gave the queen a iPod?!?! It was the end of the Republic. All that stuff is worse than pawning off human beings here and there. C'man.

Just wait until they get their talking points to rationalize it. Should be good for some laughs.

The Saudi's kill and American resident on Turkish soil. Turkey get's pissed at the Saudi's for it, and instead of taking the side of the American resident/journalist, Trump instead decides to appease Turkey with a human sacrifice that is another American resident to keep them from being mad at Saudi Arabia.

What ****ing century did we just warp back to?

Did you know Obama wasn't born in this country? Did you know his wife is really a man? Lol, the right wing craziness of the early 2000s will end up on comedy shows 80 years from now, like prohibitionist.

It's not surprising at all, but there is something extra evil about ordering the death of a bunch of people who tortured and murdered a dissident on your orders while you pretend you had nothing to do with it.

I can imagine that this might not set well wit some in the Saudi intelligence/secret police or whatever it is they call them. Taken in conjunction with some of the other things the Crown Prince has done such as extorting those he held prisoner in a luxury hotel, and the kidnapping of the Lebanese Prime Minister. He would seem to be creating a number of rich powerful and dangerous enemies for himself that could well coalesce into an abrupt and possibly violent end to his reign.

Would not be surprised if he goes out the way he governs. With a violent coup. He just showed that if you are loyal to him he will still have you killed for being loyal. Who would stay loyal to that?

The royal house of saud would stage a coup against the crown prince of the royal house of saud? Yeah that would be one of the most bloody family feuds in history.

He's already imprisoned family and took their money. I could see it happening.

Could be. The easiest way to find out is to take a look at his published tax returns and .........
