Again, talking about how your “allies” should fawn all over you or you’ll simply go aid dictators committing genocide......sends the message that you are the exact opposite of trustworthy.
If you don’t want to be treated like an enemy, you probably shouldn’t be talking about how you don’t have an issue with helping the enemies of the US.
Nope buddy, thats wrong. Realpolitik again.
USa acts hostile against Germany and did so since 2016.
One cant have a functional alliance under such circumstances. Its impossible. Tell me how we can counter China when at same time you threaten a German town with destruction over a pipeline project? Or threaten tariffs on german products?
We are a democracy and our politicians want to be reelected here. You dont get reelected when you buddy up with the country that want hurt your own workers interests.
Thats how democracy works.
And its not just us. France and the UK have turned their backs at you as well. MAybe its time for some introspective view why that is the case.
Look, your administration wants to achieve something. To achieve this you need allies. Either against China and also against Iran. You dont make allies by attacking them.
Right now you have nothing to offer, infact its even favorable to keep you down. And it works, blocked in WHO, blocked in UNSC.
Trumps plan was to install harsher sanctions on Iran, to force Iran into a new deal and maybe even meet with the iranian president Rouhani. He failed because USA is blocked in the UNSC, whith Germany, France and UK absenting.
In the WHO, USA wanted to curb Chinas influence. USA tried to tell the other nations what to do. So Germany and France stand up and left. You need the signature of Germany and France. So China laughed.
Experts say usually the german chancellor and the american president phoned at least once a week, sometimes more than that. As the two strongest western nations a functional relationship between Germany and US is important. Or as Reagan said, when he wants to clear something with "Europe", he calles the german chancellor.
Now its said that Merkel and trump dont communicate with each other for months.
You had some reasonable persons in your administration like Mattis, we ignoed Trump and contacted him. But since Mattis is gone, there is no contact left.
As this artcle says:
No return to 'good old days' for German-US ties
Communication between the chancellor and the US president has been brought to a minimum, according to Der Spiegel.
While Merkel at times spoke with Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama once a week, contact with Trump has been extremely rare.
"Spontaneous phone calls are not a part of their relationship," the magazine quoted an unnamed American diplomat as saying.
They often go for several months without speaking to each other.
While Trump has made a habit out of denigrating alliances and cooperation with Europe – including accusing Germany of freeloading on defense spending – from Germany’s point of view, talks with Trump are mostly regarded as useless.
They have "little practical use," said one German government representative, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Trump is notorious for being ill-informed about international issues and being combative and reckless in conversation with world leaders, especially European ones.
According to German press reports, it has now become normal for Merkel not to ask for a meeting with Trump when she visits the United States, while the American president – nearly four years into his term – has yet to pay an official visit to Berlin.
