More evidence of how democrats politicize covid. Apparently covid is gone at the border but still a problem with college students.

"On April 6, 2022, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) extended the student loan payment pause through Aug. 31, 2022.
The pause includes the following relief measures for eligible loans:
  • a suspension of loan payments
  • a 0% interest rate
  • stopped collections on defaulted loans

  • "March 12, 2022: Unaccompanied minors, who were temporarily exempt from expulsions under Title 42, are now permanently exempt under a CDC order. April 1, 2022: The CDC announces the end of Title 42, effective May 23, 2022."

As a person that had a student loan and repaid it I am appalled at the ease in which Biden can pause payments. And yes, like many others things this is truly a political move. It's not like there are no jobs.

In a word, politics (and do not discount that Democrats have a whole lot of vote buying to do before the pending midterms.)

How dare the democrats pretend that the student loan program and an emergency measure to prevent outbreaks are different things! They're identical if you ignore all the differences. Sheesh.

🤦‍♂️

Do you notice how they just about never stake out their actual position and explain why it is the better one, in detail? How it's always just "a democrat is doing ______. BAD! SAD! MAD!"?

OP says nothing about what he thinks our policy should be on student loans or on whether or not Title 42 should still be used to turn people with completely legitimate asylum claims at the border. And of course he does not address the fundamental absurdity of spending the last two years screaming about how measures to reduce harm from COVID are all sinister liberal plots to steal 'freedoms', whatever that was supposed to mean.

He doesn't seem to have the slightest clue about what should happen with either. He just knows to say POOPIES ON THE LIBS!

Well...you mean you are equally appalled at both Biden and Trumps actions...right?

Imo, an educated populace is in the nation's best interest. At the very minimum, profit should be taken out of the loans for educational programs. Equally as important should be the quality of the education provided.

Your opinion on student loans in general aside Biden is on one hand saying Covid is under control and opening the flood gates to illegals as he simultaneously says the Covid relief student loan forgiveness programs need to stay in place. He's politicizing covid just as democrat governors did with extended shutdowns.

University education should be free-an investment in a nation's future. Instead young professional graduates and tax payers get saddled with loan repayments for decades. In Britain we used to award grants to university students until 1976. Scotland still offers free university tuition, which is how it should be, instead of youngsters being educated into enormous debts.

Biden is not alone, our governor here in Texas said it was over almost a year ago. Oddly, he brings up for some topics but not others..

What's an illegal? Someone looking for asylum by applying inside America? Nope, that's legal.

"Whether it's by crossing the U.S. border with a "coyote" or buying a fake U.S. passport, a foreign national who enters the U.S. illegally can be both convicted of a crime and held responsible for a civil violation under the U.S. immigration laws. Illegal entry also carries consequences for anyone who might later attempt to apply for a green card or other immigration benefit.
The penalties and consequences get progressively more severe if a person enters the United States illegally more than once, or enters illegally after a final order of removal (deportation) or after having been convicted of an aggravated felony. "

What Is Illegal Entry to the United States?

U.S. immigration law actually uses the term "improper entry," which has a broad meaning. It's more than just slipping across the U.S. border at an unguarded point. Improper entry can include:
  • entering or attempting to enter the United States at any time or place other than one designated by U.S. immigration officers (in other words, away from a border inspection point or other port of entry)
  • eluding examination or inspection by U.S. immigration officers (people have tried everything from digging tunnels to hiding in the trunk of a friend's car)
  • attempting to enter or obtain entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or willful concealment of a material fact (which might include, for example, lying on a visa application or buying a false green card or other entry document).
(See Title 8, Section 1325 of the U.S. Code (U.S.C.), or Section 275 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (I.N.A.) for the exact statutory language.

Criminal Penalties for Improper Entry to the United States

For the first improper entry offense, the person can be fined (as a criminal penalty), or imprisoned for up to six months, or both.
For a subsequent offense, the person can be fined or imprisoned for up to two years, or both. (See 8 U.S.C. Section 1325, I.N.A. Section 275.)
But just in case that isn't enough to deter illegal entrants, a separate section of the law adds penalties for reentry (or attempted reentry) in cases where the person had been convicted of certain types of crimes and thus removed (deported) from the U.S., as follows:

That's a lot of cut and paste to answer the wrong question...
"To obtain asylum through the affirmative asylum process you must be physically present in the United States. You may apply for asylum regardless of how you arrived in the United States or your current immigration status."
