Dear Sir or Ma’am,
I am writing this letter to express my grave concerns as a citizen of the United States. Drastic change is required at every level to divert our great nation from it’s current path of self destruction. I count myself among the millions of unheard voices expressing the same concerns over the internet, during coffee breaks at work, in letters to the editor, and many other places. We are the backbone of this society, the working class Americans, and we are taking a stand.
We want the borders secured, 100%, no exceptions. The current invasion, yes INVASION, of illegal aliens is as intolerable as it is unimaginable. How could the borders of the greatest nation in the world be so porous? Overlooking this invasion and pandering to minority groups to secure votes will no longer be tolerated. There is a time to put the best interests of this country above political correctness, above one’s personal agenda and ambitions, and above the desires of special interest groups. That time is now. We can no longer afford to fret over anyone else’s opinion of us, we have enough problems of our own to take care of.
Granting amnesty to illegal aliens is also unacceptable. They are here illegally, they’ve broken the law. We need to round them up and deport them. We must enforce our laws, or they become meaningless. Busses should be waiting at any immigration protest to load up the illegals and send them home. This is more cost effective than providing a lifetime of public assistance to them and the children they may bear on American soil. Any amnesty is a slap in the face and a grave injustice to anyone who has immigrated legally and put in the time, effort, and large sums of money to properly become a member of our great nation. I personally know several legal immigrants, and they are angry with the proposed immigration “reform”. Persons who do not wish to know our language, our history, our government, our way of life, have no right to be here. Changing our laws to suit the whims of any special interest group is unacceptable.
Our elected officials (that’s you) no longer represent the interests of their constituents. This is obvious from most current legislation. Corporations, no matter how generous to your campaign, are not citizens of this country. Designing legislation to benefit these corporations is counter productive to providing for the principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as guaranteed by our constitution. Padding your own income year after year with large pay raises is uncalled for, especially when you’re not doing your job. You should all be required to participate in the Social Security system as well, with your current retirement program abolished. What’s good for us is good for you as well. I also will fight for term limits for ALL elected officials. There are too many career politicians in government who cause stagnation. We the People are tired of partisan bickering and blocking. You guys were elected to work together, not against each other, should perform the duties you were elected to do, and remember that you are PUBLIC SERVANTS.
Taxation has gotten way out of hand. Isn’t that half the reason America was founded to begin with? It’s time for a Washington Tea Party where we throw politicians into the harbor. It’s time for a fair tax system where everyone is taxed equally, businesses and individuals alike. The IRS could then be disbanded, saving taxpayers a large sum. We no longer wish to pay for endless social programs supporting people who refuse to work. I propose a 2 year limit on welfare of any kind. Surely one can find a job in 2 years, perhaps at a lower pay level, but a job none the less.
Leave the minimum wage alone. When it goes up, so does everything else. Minimum wage is not supposed to be a living wage, but an entry level stepping stone. A 30 year old on minimum wage has no ambition, don’t reward them by giving them a raise. Force them to strive for something better. This goes along with the welfare comments above.
Stay out of our business. The overwhelming majority of people in this country are supposed to be smart enough to fend for themselves. I do not wish to have my rights and freedoms chiseled away in the name of safety or anything else. Intelligent people can and will keep the marketplace safe by making wise decisions about what to buy or not buy. Cars now have airbags and other safety equipment not because government mandates it, but because the consumer demands it. People wear seatbelts because they want to, not because it’s the law. I am a full grown intelligent adult capable of making informed decisions for myself, stop treating me like a child.
Stop allowing judges to legislate from the bench. It is not their job to create law, but to enforce it. Too much power has been gained by judges, and their personal beliefs and agendas allowed to be passed down as law. This should only be permitted by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court needs to be reformed as well. Judges should be appointed according to the following criteria: 3 confirmed Republicans, 3 Confirmed Democrats, and 3 confirmed Independent/ Libertarian/ Other Party, based on their prior decisions and stated personal principles, as determined by a combined panel of equal numbers of each of the afore mentioned parties.
Stop frivolous lawsuits. The price of these lawsuits is born by all of us. Rewarding people’s stupidity is not the standard we want to set. The price of life is too high to be paying for someone else to get rich for nothing. Insurance, health care, and the cost of anything we buy has gotten out of hand, in part, due to these suits. The judge awarding millions to the McDonald’s “coffee lady” should have that money taken from HIM and should be disbarred, as should all other judges and lawyers participating in such cases. Legitimate suits are fine, but the frivolous suits need to stop. We can’t afford them.
The law needs to be simplified. Laws are so gray and hazy that I doubt even lawyers can determine a concrete standard set forth in one. There is way too much room for interpretation, I believe by design, allowing judges, lawyers, etc… to manipulate the “law” as they see fit to a particular situation. This is frustrating, unfair, and contrary to the Constitution. The average American should be able to read a law, and understand it’s purpose readily. There should be no “loopholes” hidden in the legalese for lawyers and judges to manipulate to their advantage.
Stop letting the media and left wing radicals dictate how this country should be run. They are the reason for high taxation, high fuel prices, and many other problems we are facing. Listen to ALL the people, not just the noisiest ones, or the ire of the average American will be taken out at the ballot box. We vote, and will vote in dramatically increased numbers, and we outnumber the radical left.
We need energy independence, not by 2016, not by 2010, NOW! Regardless of what the media is saying, $3.00 a gallon gasoline is KILLING the average American, and the economy is sure to suffer for it. But the collateral damage is unseen. The American family will suffer more than it already has. Many can’t afford to go on trips, even short ones, removing millions of dollars from the economy. Many are drastically cutting back on such things as eating out, going to the movies, to the beach, to State and National Parks, shopping, major purchases, and many other things that could contribute to the economy. The longer we wait, the worse it will get. We need to drill for oil, here at home. Be it the Alaska Wildlife Refuge, Yellowstone Park, or my back yard for all I care. Stop sending our money to Arabs who wish to kill us and destroy our way of life. Keep it here. Plausible alternative fuels need to be developed quickly. We need to relax emission regulations in regard to alternative fuels. We need more diesel automobiles that can run on biodiesel and waste vegetable oils. Anything that will reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Once again, the radical left has backed us into this corner, and we must emerge from it quickly. Responsible drilling has minimal impact on the environment and people need to realize this. We also need to develop clean coal technologies. America has a vast supply of coal that needs to be utilized. We need to make it easier to build new refining capacity, and promote nuclear power. A standardized nuclear power plant design is the safest, cleanest, most economical source of electric power. Energy independence cannot wait, it will be the difference between survival and extinction.
Keep our jobs at home. We are tired of seeing our jobs go overseas, all for the ever increasing greed of the large corporation. America was once the proud, self reliant industrial giant, who has now become pitifully dependent on importing even the basic necessities. This has placed us all in peril, and will cause the downfall of our society. Study history and it will tell you that the path we are on will lead to our demise. The “global economy” isn’t working.
Other country’s problems should not be ours. Stop giving our money away with no expectation of repayment, with interest. We are a capitalist country, act like it! I personally could care less what anyone else’s opinion is! Why must we be the world’s babysitter, and then be chastised for how we go about doing it? Enough already! We need to take care of our own people, and our own problems first. Period.
I am an American. I am angry at the course this government has chosen to take. And I am going to vote to make a difference. I believe I am in step with a growing number of Americans who feel as I do about a great many issues. We will no longer sit idly by and allow our nation to go to ruin, we are going to vote. Our voices will be heard.
Sincerely,
