.....and the black man happened to be an undercover cop in a crowd protesting the 2017 acquittal of the white officer who killed Anthony Lamar Smith, which is probably the only reason they got in trouble.

The three are also accused of conspiring to cover up the beating, and a fourth officer is charged with lying to a federal grand jury to help in the cover-up, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The three officers have been identified as Dustin Boone, Randy Hays, and Christopher Myers. The fourth, Bailey Colletta, denied knowing the victim and said he was “brought to the ground very gently” the night of his arrest. But in reality, the victim—identified by the Post-Dispatch as Luther Hall, a black man and 22-year veteran of the force—had been beaten so severely he could not eat and lost 20 pounds, according to prosecutors. The officers threw Hall to the ground, kicked him, and beat him with a police baton, prosecutors said. The Post-Dispatch described a cut above his lip as a “2-centimeter hole that went through his face.” Hall had surgery to repair two herniated discs in his neck and back, and more than a year after the incident, he still has been unable to return to work.

The alleged assault took place after officer Jason Stockley was
acquitted of murder on Sept. 15, 2017. Stockley had killed the 24-year-old Smith in 2011 after an alleged drug deal, shooting him five times after a high-speed chase. Stockley carried an unauthorized, personal AK-47 during the confrontation and was heard in a recording saying “we’re killing this mother****er.” After the acquittal, protests erupted for days around St. Louis, including a large protest on Sept. 17, the night of Hall’s assault.

Oh right, and apparently the cops were texting each other in advance of the protest: "Myers, who had been with the department for three years, wrote, “let’s whoop some ass.” Boone texted, “It’s gonna get IGNORANT tonight!!” He added: “It’s gonna be a lot of fun beating the hell out of these ****heads once the sun goes down and nobody can tell us apart!!!!” "

There are a whole lot of "just one" bad apples out there, it would seem.

And people wonder why there’s such massive distrust between certain communities and the police.

And it’s not just because things like this happen, but America for a country that claims to value law and order, it has shockingly poor things in place to deal with problems within the police, it seems largely outside certain municipal forces.

Pretty routine treatment according to a lot of protestors from St Louis, just happened to bee they picked the wrong black guy to beat.

Exactly.

If they hadn't accidentally gotten one of their own, we'd be hearing about how he had resisted arrest and reached towards his waistband, making them scared for their lives...

And I'd be hearing from people about how I'm a "cop hater" for creating the thread.

And this severe and permanently disabling beating could have been dealt out to anyone there "peacefully" protesting that came within range of these malicious animals.

And as others have already stated...the protester would have had zero evidence or recourse or "credibility" against the cops.

It really does sadden me that there aren't more responses. This is the kind of thing that should enrage anyone. A gross abuse of state power, hinting at greater unknown abuses. They beat someone because they like to beat people, and the only reason we heard about it is because the beaten man was one of them.

At a certain point we need to stop using the 'bad apple' line and take a good hard look on the hiring/training practices. People like this should not be police officers. Pay them more if we must. Better benefits. Fine. This is as wrong as it gets. This is what you find in a true police state.

"land of the brave, home of the free".....so what are we scared of?
