Thousands of Mariupol civilians taken to Russia

iu

Ukraine has accused Russia of forcibly relocating thousands of civilians from Mariupol, the strategic port city devastated by Russian shelling. Russia is housing an estimated 5,000 at a temporary camp in Bezimenne, east of Mariupol, seen in satellite images. Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said 40,000 had been moved from Ukraine to Russian-held territory without any coordination with Kyiv. A Mariupol refugee, now in Russia, said: "All of us were taken forcibly". Some Ukrainian officials describe Russia's actions as "deportations" to "filtration camps" - an echo of Russia's war in Chechnya, when thousands of Chechens were brutally interrogated in makeshift camps and many disappeared. It is an internationally-recognised abuse of human rights for a warring party to deport civilians to its territory.

Since on numerous occasions Ukraine tried to negotiate humanitarian corridors out of Mariupol, I view this as hostage taking by the Russians.

'Filtration camps'? Internment went out of style?

Whataboutism.

Quote: Whataboutism or whataboutery is a variant of the tu quoque logical fallacy, which (1) attempts to discredit an opponent's position (2) by charging hypocrisy without directly refuting or disproving the argument.

Did I attempt to discredit a position?

Did I attempt to discredit a position?

Of course you did. You immediately tried to DILUTE the topic by comparing it to other events. That’s a form of “discrediting” it. It’s what you Putin lovers do constantly. You rush to bring whataboutism into any thread about Putin’s brutal invasion, in this case in just the third post. Please stay directly on topic.

Blind patriotism. Nationalism. Militarism. Anti-environmentalism. Anti Justice League.

Or perhaps just some true empathy for those Ukrainians who are being forced from the homeland and in to a country that they hate because it destroyed their city. Eh?

No empathy there. Just an anti-American agenda.

Sounds like the Azov Battalion who headquarter in Mariupol!
Azov Battalion, is a right-wing extremist and neo-Nazi unit of the National Guard of Ukraine,
based in Mariupol, in the Azov Sea coastal region.
Members of the regiment come from 22 countries and are of various backgrounds.

With Russian forces besieging Mariupol, in which 120,000+ ethnic Greeks live, SKAI news spoke with a
Mr Kiouranas who lives in the city and exposed that Ukrainian “fascists” are killing people for trying to leave the city.

When asked by SKAI news if he planned to leave the city, Kiouranas responded “how can I leave? When you
try to leave you run the risk of running into a patrol of the Ukrainian fascists, the Azov Battalion.”

Our MSM gives a ridiculous birds eye view of the conflict.
RT is banned on Youtube but Azov is not. All you need to know

You're Hoover Dam right I diluted this deluded thread with an excellent example of hypocrisy.

"True" empathy? More like selective empathy.

Thank you for proving my point regarding your constant whataboutism. Putin loves you. And rightly so.

Which you apparently lack when it comes to the Ukrainians who are being killed and whose cities are being destroyed by the brutal invasion of the evil murderous thug Putin. Why won’t you condemn that? Putin loves you, you know.

What a truly stupid thing to say. If you can’t add to the topic with a thoughtful input, perhaps you should just stay quiet.
Your defiance and poutrage is inspirational.

Now what?

Hey...I know...wear a ribbon that shows how much you care....THAT will put Russia in its place.

Kidnapping.

Why isn't the world calling this out?

There is not much truth to the charge. Keep in mind that until 1991 there was no boundary. And the ethnic Russian populations straddled both Ukraine and Russia. Tons of Ukrainians in eastern part of Ukraine have families in Russian cities in the other side. Why they have to be kidnapped to head for shelter with cousins in Russia makes no sense. What the Ukrainian government in Kiev is engaging in is the same old cancelation of ethnic Russian minorities within Ukraine.

Mariupol is a cosmopolitan city with ethnic Ukrainians, ethnic Russians, ethnic Greeks etc. With majority probably the ethnic Russians. It can be argued that an ethnic Ukrainian in Mariupol ending up in Russia is not their desired destination. But how can an ethnic Russian, in all likelihood with families in Russia, winding up in Russia be kidnapping??

If it's Ukrainians being sent to Russia, it is kidnapping.
