Honestly, I was struck with amazement when I learned that besides 138,000 American servicemen and some 15,000 allied forces deployed in Iraq, there are also over 100,000 private American contractors and associate contractors there who support US army - foodstuff delivers, weapons delivers, maintenance people who operate communications systems, repair helicopters, fix weapons systems, link the computers with the troops to command centers, network engineers, software specialists, telecommunications experts and many-many others. Of course our army need these people but why are there so many of them? Now it is clear that further enlargement of US contingent in Iraq accords with the interests of support services. Then it is a logical conclusion that all these private contractors lobby the work of US intelligence in Iraq that report the White House that the war is far from being over and we need to send more amd more troops... BUSH, they cheat on you! And they always did starting from non-existent weapons of mass destruction that Saddam Hussein was allegedly in possession of. And this is exactly why the war has been lasting so long in defiance of common sense and continuous anti Iraq war protest actions in America and elsewhere in the world. The truth is that American intelligence has other masters apart from the White House.

It is true that there are many private contractors in Iraq, but I would not say that they are betraying the government. The government is well aware of what is going on and they actively support it. Is it any surprise that Halliburton' stocks have doubled, or that last year the top 10 oil companies made over 70 billion in profits alone? This is not a betrayal of the government , but more accurately a betrayal of the people of the world by this administration and their capitalist cronies.

Defense is a major industry and I know this first hand. My college, University of Massachusetts Lowell, has many deals with the military and military contractors to hook students up with jobs when they graduate. This ensures that the military machine will continue. Now more than ever, the Massachusetts economy is going to be dependent on continued conflict overseas.
