Thoughts on Charlottesville

I haven't made a blog post in a very long time despite having an active site (mostly about media and TV), but the events in Charlottesville shook me to the core. It's worth a read:

There is no moral equivalency. Nazis deserve to get punched in the face..

Sure, the Republicans in Congress denounced him, but their cries were outnumbered by the loudest people in the room. The ones defending the freedom of speech, FOR NAZIS, who don’t even believe in it, and one too many empty threats. Those who dare to stand up to Nazis are not worse than or the same as Nazis. We did that before. We stood up and fought them.

Why is it a bad thing to do now?? If you are that principled that punching Nazis in the face hurts your feelings, you might want to get your priorities straight. You can’t be THAT principled. It doesn’t make any sense, it’s impossible, and that’s not a value that any American should hold. Nazis deserve to get punched in the face, not freedom of speech.

You say several really silly things here.

The ones defending the freedom of speech, FOR NAZIS, who don’t even believe in it

Freedom of speech applies to everyone, period, no matter what opinions they hold. If you believe in freedom of speech, you believe that.

As you don't believe that, you don't actually believe in freedom of speech, and by your own reasoning, then, you yourself should be denied freedom of speech, and no one should defend your right. On your own terms.

Those who dare to stand up to Nazis are not worse than or the same as Nazis. We did that before. We stood up and fought them.

Merely standing up to Nazis doesn't in and of itself make you a good person. It certainly doesn't make you equivalent to the men who fought Nazi Germany.

There are noble people who stand up to Nazis.

There are also thuggish rabble-rousers who stand up to Nazis, people who believe in nothing, but are in it for the opportunity to get into fights, damage property, and cause mayhem. "Fighting Nazis" is their excuse, not their cause.

Trying to claim that all are of the noble variety is vapid, and just as much a denial of reality as any Nazi apologists would offer.

Why is it a bad thing to do now??

No one said standing up to Nazis is a bad thing to do. This is nonsense.

The principle that freedom of speech applies to everyone regardless of what they believe is American as it gets.

You think it's ridiculous to oppose the idea that Nazis should be "punched in the face" and denied their Constitutional rights for what they believe.

This makes the difference between you and them almost nil. It certainly means you do not hold to the best of American ideals, and you embrace political violence and thuggery. Just as they do.

Trump's history of racism goes way back. He once said, According to David K Johnson in his book "The making of Donald Trump" that he didn't want black men counting his money, he wanted jews counting it. He was sued for discriminatory practices when renting. His association with the Alt Right can be seen on a post that his son put on social media entitled "The Deplorables." Go to the Anti Defamation leagues website and you will learn how the image of Pepe the frog just behind Donald Trump is a symbol the Alt Right uses. His use of the term "A Mexican Judge" when the judge in question is an American born native. Referring to latin Americans as criminals, rapist and murders but I'm sure some are really good people. These are not little clues, they are Bill Boards. No one with a brain should need his comments about Charlottsvile to reveal this. America didn't choose a racist president. A minority who choose not to see who he is or didn't care he is elected him. If you don't like racist , then renounce your president. It's as simple as that. That is the only way you can cleans yourself of this filth.

When asked to invest $75,000 for 25% of a company that had a new idea for a windshield washer, Daymon on Shark Tank said, "For $75,000, I can get a guy from the hood to wash your car windows for the rest of your life." Is that racist too?

We've bastardized the race label to mean something it isn't.
