This is why I don't want to fully disparage all Russians

This is Putin's war....not Russian's war.
Yes. We need to separate anti-Putin/establishment sentiment from anti-Russian sentiment and work that divide.

I thought it has been pretty clear that the blame falls to Putin/oligarchy that supports him, not necessarily the citizens of Russia.

Absolutely. I thought that was understood.
There are people saying and doing idiotic things though. Like Swalwell wanting to boot out all Russian students in country. Or people dumping vodka bottles out in the street. Or people just getting caught up in all things russian bad. That sentiment would drive some over there on the fence right into defense mode aka putin's arms.

I also remember "freedom fries".
These are gestures, imho.

No. Russians elected him, and until they see the error they made, I'm all for hitting them with sanctions.

Americans, Brits and Aussies elected and re-elected (under actual free and fair elections) the criminal conquerors of two sovereign states on the opposite side of the world, Afghanistan and Iraq.

By ignoring even the feeble, undemocratic system of international law in place and emphasizing a might-makes-right world order, these countries arguably contributed big time to perceived need for 'strong man' leadership and the 'justification' for Russia's aggressive domineering of its own sphere of influence.

And their people suffered the consequences. At least in the case of America (not sure about the others) they voted out the perpetrators.

That's how it's meant to be. And hopefully will be in Russia.

Yes. And we should have been sanctioned for it. Unfortunately, the countries not involved in invading/occupying Iraq and Afghanistan were in no position to apply sanctions. They'd have been hurt more.

Who's disparaging Russians? The Russian people suffering from sanctions is not "disparaging" them. I've yet heard of any ill-will against the Russian people. Post #9 comes close, as if they deserve suffering from sanctions because they "voted" Putin into office.

I'm fine with the sanctions. Examples have been made in the thread about pointless overtures.

(Sorry could not pass up the softball you served up) 😆

So, if you voted for Biden, then only those that elected him should be given the high inflation costs going on now here?

If there was a way to overcome the control Putin has over the information that gets to Russians, this war would probably be over sooner than later. Russian society is currently living in a world outside of reality because Putin is blocking the truth.

Man, that Biden, causing global inflation.

This is Putin's war....not Russian's war.
This could apply to the USA as well........ elected officials, The MIC, Big Oil ..........the wars most often than
not do not belong to the people. Yet it is the people and their family members that get sent off to kill others
because as we have watched the"leadership" cannot agree.

I feel it's similar in the U.S. We have a huge segment of our population that gets their "information" from purely partisan propaganda sources, and who literally believe fake things like Trump won the election. They have their own ecosystem of sites and alternatives to mainstream news/media, that basically tells them purely partisan lies. I find it hard to fault Russians when we have such rampant propaganda here in a democracy with freedom of the press.
