1963- Civil rights leader Medgar Evers was assassinated by Byron de la Beckwith
1967 - The Supreme Court issued the landmark Loving decision, striking down state laws against interracial marriage;
1978- Son of Sam Killer David Berkowitz received his 6 life term sentence;
1987- President Reagan delivered his memorable "Mr. Gorbachev- tear down this wall" speech
1991- Boris Yeltsin elected president of the Russian republic;
1994- OJ Simpson murdered Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman
