We got accepted on the food-stamps, my fiancee got financial aid for her school, and I got offered an internship with the SEIU!

Rock and roll, things definitely cant suck forever :)

Damn, I thought this thread would be about Viagra. :(

Just kidding, well done, hope things keep getting better for you. :)

In other news, unemployment continues to blow.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Life is what you make it; people get what they go for. I'm glad indirect theft will never be on my dossier.

By the way, tell your boys at the SEIU to castrate themselves.

Sure they can. Financial problems are easily resolved, but there are definitely ways in which your life can suck forever. They typically don't have anything to do with money, and can't be fixed by all the money in the world.

Anyway, congratulations on getting your situation under control.

Typical libertarian bull.

Exactly. There are people with issues for whom I have the utmost sympathy: cancer patients, folks with terminal illnesses, the visually impaired, et al. Folks who are in tough financial situations of their own doing? Not a scintilla of sympathy from yours truly. Hoplite could have went to college; he could have started his own business; he could work at McDonalds. He didn't; he didn't; he won't.

Ashamed of myself for utilizing services there are there for people in my situation that I work to maintain AND have paid into when I was working....yeah I feel SO ashamed.

I'm in a tough financial position because I'm trying to find a job at the moment and my fiancée is putting herself through school.

Hoplite could have went to college
With what money? Yes, scholarships are available but they wont cover everything and student loans are available for people with some kind of collateral or co-signer, which I have neither. I do plan to go to college once the money is there, but right now putting food on the table and keeping a roof over our heads takes priority.

he could have started his own business
Can you show me this magic tree that grows money and is also a venture capitalist?

he could work at McDonalds
McDonalds never returned my calls, believe me, I tried.

He didn't; he didn't; he won't.
You think I enjoy worrying about where rent is going to come from and worrying that if I get hurt we are SERIOUSLY screwed? Do you think I enjoy worrying that if ANYTHING happens to my car, we're in deep trouble because we probably wont be able to afford to fix it.

Honestly, I think you have an unrealistic view of the world. Let's see you start at zero today and keep your attitude.

Gods I hate armchair Libertarians.

WTF does your ugly, corpulent fiancee have to do with anything?

If I liked you, I'd give you some advice, but I don't, so I won't.

I am really glad to read this.. You are not all bad:)

Assuming that you are in true need of the assistance, congrats. Use it wisely and take this as an opputunity to get your **** together and get off these programs as soon as possible. Congrats to your fiance for getting an education.

I'm not going to get into why I'm against these programs in this thread. As long as the government gives corporations their version of welfare I can't bash the working man for getting help.

If it was me, here's how I would have written this post.

Because of this poor economy, I feel I had no choice but to accept food stamps. My fiancee has also had to seek financial aid for school. The only intership I could find was with the SEIU.
I feel bad that the tax payers have to foot my bills for the time being, but I promise to work hard and make-up for it in the future.
Things can't suck forever.

Well, good thing I'm not you :)

I dont feel any guilt or shame whatsoever in accepting the help of services that were set up SPECIFICALLY for people in my situation. I paid into the system when I was working through state taxes and I'm helping earn the help now by working for them.

I dont have so much pride that I cant see when I may need to accept help.
