It's no secret that the US healthcare system is a disaster, and of all developed nations, the US has some of the worst healthcare and overall health.
This Business Insider article mentions the 36 countries that have better healthcare than the US, from France in #1 to Costa Rica in #36.
My poll today is: What needs to change to bring the US closer to other developed nations in terms of healthcare quality, service and costs?
The 36 Best Healthcare Systems In The World - Business Insider
A complete overhaul and conversion to a universal healthcare system would prevent this from happening. Why do some Americans hate the idea of an 'NHS' for the US so much?
Bloated proof of actual demand?
really, the only time you see wealthy americans going somewhere else for treatment is those who have essentially end stage cancer and think some stuff not legal in the USA will work for their disease (remember the Laetrile fad 30 years ago for cancer or radon gas enemas for AIDS 25 years ago?)
for people who are industrious enough to have good insurance, this is the best healthcare going
at the time, I asked my doctor and he said it would have been done next week here. People in Canada are stuck when something is bad and they need it fast which is how it will be here now that we have this awful legislation. Everyone loses with this law.
What was the surgery? Did she have pneumonia? Do you really think if Canadians are dying because they cant get needed surgery? Why arent they trying to get a system like ours? Oh the outrage...
Wait times for treatments are ordered by need if she really did need that surgery to live she would have pushed to the front of the line or they would pay to have the treatment in another province or elsewhere. I assume she died of other causes as you knwo people do die of things we cannot help.
First, it's "your", second, numbers count for everything in terms of availability and treatment.
he makes 10k more than I do and I take home 20%+ more money that he does. Free healthcare is nothing but a liberal lie
so in fact taxes are more for the free healthcare system you have? I would rather pay less taxes so I have more money to invest to grow my own portfolio, not the governments
And this is the fundamental problem. You and those like you are so selfish and childish that you would see your countrymen die instead of paying a few more percent tax.
Disgusting.
This is anecdotal evidence, to start with, and secondly, this really glosses over the point: The poorest Brits aren't paying anywhere near 50% taxes -- in fact, some of them don't have to pay taxes at all.
As for your friend, imaginary or not, recall that he doesn't have to shell out for social security, healthcare, education, or any of the other 'added costs' that are taken care of by the state.
You don't seem to understand this: No one would willingly pay more. If one system clearly helped everyone to have way more money, we would all use that. But the funny thing is, over the course of the 70 years of the NHS, numerous studies have been done to prove that it IS worth it. If it wasn't worth it, nobody would do it.
Healthcare must be funded, somehow. That is a universal truth. Whether it comes from your taxes or from your wallet is a largely unimportant detail (though it's also a fact that Americans pay MORE for their healthcare than Brits or Frenchmen do).
However! A system where it's every man for himself has all the morality of a cannibal tribe. You can't call yourself a civilised nation if you refuse to support your fellow citizens out of pure, pathetic greed.
You, individually, will pay less and get better service if the US had a nationalised healthcare system. Add to boot that you wouldn't be stuck in the 19th century philosophically speaking, and I can't see why so many Americans resist it.
And we end up paying or it anyway, it goes past childish and selfish to just flat dumb. There is an entire world of evidence UHC far ouitperforms our system for less money, yet the conservatives in this country "know" better.
Any evidence? Or just another mindless RW mantra?

meh, must be why most of the counties that have it are in worse economical shape that we are
By what measures are the other countries in worse shape than us? Do you have evidence their economic status is really worse then ours? If so, how is that connected to UHC? We have the most expensive healthcare in the world, if I was trying to defend it I dont think I would be bringing up the economics.
that is a classic chicken **** statement, someone has to pay, why shoudl it always be the ones willing to work? Conservatives contribute more to charity than liberals, why, because liberals are selfish and petty
Numbers? Studies, not scary goobermit bad mantra.
If you can't understand cause and effect, I guess we are done, as you are inept to discuss
In other words you have absolutely nothing beyond some scary talk you heard in the right wing noise machine. :lamo
I bet.
