I believe these charges were subsequently dropped, but consider it a sign of the times. This is where the trans ideologues want to take us: criminal prosecution for using the “wrong” pronouns:

It will be interesting to see how far the left (that is, public school systems) go with this. This is a major step.

So many are authoritarians at heart.

I think the left is miscalculating here - you can hear DeSantis saying "compelled speech", and that resonating with a lot of people. I think it's going to be a net negative for the left as they 'champion' trans rights. It's the same with CRT (or whatever anti-white sentiment should be called) in the schools.

It's a bit concerning though that public schools are free to do this.

I don’t think they’re free to do this, yet. The charges were dropped, so at some point an adult took over.

But I did read a related story that mentioned efforts underway to update Title IX to make “misgendering” a form of sexual harassment. That is where the fight needs to be engaged.

Right or wrong, individually, authoritarianism is easier. You just do what you're told. You don't have to think about certain things, and that takes things off your plate to worry about.

As I have argued before... while I do NOT believe that authoritarianism and Socialism is the answer, can you blame the younger generation for thinking that way considering what has happened in the last 22 years (9/11, school shootings rise, Iraq War, War in Terror, inflation, 1/6, etc...) and Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden all leaving the country worse off than it was when they went into office?

As bad as those events were, they pale in comparison to the horrors inflected by Marxism over the last 100 years.

Education is the answer. Alas, what we now find ourselves fighting against in our public schools is indoctrination.

Whether or not they were deliberately using the wrong pronouns, charging a bunch of kids with sexual harassment for something like this is way over the top. There's many ways they could have chosen to discipline before resorting to something so extreme. Why not give them detention, or have a teacher explain to the students why what they did was wrong?

This is not a criminal referral.

I have a feeling there's a lot more to this story than pronouns. But cool headlines, bro - certainly got someone's attention.

What if someone is transgender, makes it clear what pronouns they want to use, and then becomes the object of nonstop ridicule? And what if this has been brought to the teacher's attention, and the teacher did nothing? What if this has been brought to the administration's attention, and the administration did nothing? If the intent is to harass, that's harassment, and not just a case of "Pass it to him, er, they."

I didn’t say it was. I sad that is where this is heading if the trans Stasi get their way.

More than likely, it's a sensationalized headline to grab someone's attention. Looks like it worked.

Title IX covers more than just date rape.

I’m sure you have a feeling. When you have facts, let us know. That the case was so quickly dropped is a fact that should tell you something.

Non stop ridicule, for any reason, is itself a form of harassment. The “correctness” of the pronouns is not the issue there.

Or the thin end of a wedge. Best to beat back bad public policy when it emerges and before it starts doing real damage.

I agree with what you're saying, and I think there's a good chance we don't know the whole story. But we can only go by what we know and a quick search through a few other articles on this doesn't reveal much else. If it turns out what the students did went far beyond what the article says I may take back my words. But in general I don't think people should be punished for life for things they did as children, and sexual harassment charges are the kinds of things that stick with you.

What horrors have you yourself experienced because of Marxism?

My point is that the younger generation have not experienced those horrors. They HAVE experienced seeing 3000 people die on national television, a pandemic that has killed 1 million people in this country spanning two Presidents, and leaders that only seem to serve their own political parties and financial interests.

You say Marxism has inflicted horrors, but have our younger generation ever experienced them? We are having baby formula shortages NOW. Why should they care about Marxism in the past when they can't put gas in their tank to go to work, can't find baby formula for their newborns, and still are seeing people die every day from a pandemic that is still ongoing spanning 2 Presidents from both sides of the aisle? All of which is happening NOW, with no end in sight

and sexual harassment charges are the kinds of things that stick with you.

So does the trauma from nonstop harassment - that sticks with you, too.

I don't know if that's what happened but the reporting seems pretty sloppy, which makes me skeptical. There seems to be mostly one side of the story being told here.

Why would my answer be at all relevant to this discussion? Do I need to have a close family member among the millions slaughtered by Marxist regimes to be concerned about Marxism?

No, refusal to use "preferred pronouns" is not a criminal violation.

There is no such thing as "compelled" speech in the USA. This isn't Canada.

The school district posted what the actual issue is:

"The KASD prohibits all forms of bullying and harassment in accordance with all laws, including Title IX, and will continue to support ALL students regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, sex (including transgender status, change of sex or gender identity), or physical, mental, emotional or learning disability (“Protected Classes”) in any of its student programs and activities; this is consistent with school board policy.

We do not comment on any student matters."

You are trying to move the goal posts. The chargers were incorrect pronoun use as itself a form of harassment. Not harassment that happened to use incorrect pronouns.

Again, that the case was quickly and quietly withdrawn is a strong indication there were not mitigating circumstances.

Even if it rises to the level of harrassment that we need to be concerned out - and it’s not clear that name-calling does - it is not sexual discrimination so it is not a Title IX issue.

It was only a matter of time before more was turned over to the zero tolerance group absent any degree of reason. We will see more have to obtain legal representation to fight back against public school administration authoritarianism.

To call everything harassment by misuse of pronouns is begging for bad things to happen.

Folks, if a trans girl is followed around by a pack of students and they’re taunting “You are a boy. You are a boy …” then that is clearly harassment not because of incorrect pronoun use but because of the willful act of badgering a fellow student to the point of causing serious emotional distress. It is no different than if the taunts were staying “You are a girl. You are a girl,” i.e. harassing with the “correct” pronoun.

There is no evidence, however, that such taunting was done here. The original claim, I believe, makes no mention of it.
