The worst lie Trump ever told was fake news, And now it is spreading across the world.

I think I know.

Trump's methodical undermining of reliable news as 'fake' if was detrimental to Trump. That was and is poison injected into the very heart of this nation. How can we talk through our differences if we can't even agree on basic facts?

Trump didn’t create the fact of partisan news. The existence of partisan news is the responsibility of those who practiced partisanship.

The mere fact that Trump may have leveled the accusation for personal gain does not mean that the accusation was never true.

You're absolutely correct. All anyone has to do to refute anything they don't like is say "fake news".

Imagine if Hitler or Stalin had figured that out.

I believe you will find that both individuals advocated the same basic concept, even if they didn’t use the term “fake news.”

They didn't apply it as universally as they might have.

When a good chunk of this country won't even look at the major newspapers like WaPo or NYT, we've got a problem. Partisan spin is the excuse, yes. Criticism of Trump or the party's agenda is the real reason.

A lot of the 'fake news' fallout is the media self-inflicting that on themselves with their obviously politically biased coverage:
  • their multi-year hawking of the Russian Collusion hoax
  • the latest fervor come to fore, the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story, hawking that as 'Russian Disinformation'
  • Many other examples here:
It's nothing that's new, nor nothing that simply came to be because one said so. The media's credibility and trust polling results have been falling for a long time now already, for example this poll from January this year:
  • 56% of Americans agree with the statement that "Journalists and reporters are purposely trying to mislead people by saying things they know are false or gross exaggerations."
  • 58% think that "most news organizations are more concerned with supporting an ideology or political position than with informing the public."
  • Trust in social media has hit an all-time low of 27%.
  • 36% in U.S. have a "great deal" or "fair amount" of trust in mass media
  • 68% of Democrats, 31% of independents and 11% of Republicans trust media
  • Democrats' and independents' trust is down five points since 2020, GOP's flat

Yeah, it's the media having self-inflicted this damage on themselves. All they had to do was to be just a little more even handed, a little less political activism, and they wouldn't have damaged on their credibility and trust.

Bravo eohrnberger!

Yes some tea would be good. And a realization how the fake news meme has screwed up our country and now the world
He didn't invent it though.
Hitler popularized "Die Lugenpresse!!!" (the lying press!!!) but even he didn't invent it.
Mussolini used it, Francisco Franco used it, Rwandan Hutus used it, Nicolae Ceaușescu used it.

Unfortunately, trump's followers can't tell the difference.
Since this is a partisan issue, may I suggest that members of both sides might be ill informed. The need to hear and read what one wishes to hear and read crosses party lines.

Rush Limbaugh started the virus that is killing our country.

That isn't what happened. Outfits like CNN, MSNBC, Washington Post and NY Times sold their souls, and they are not reliable, and they have not been for many years. They are propaganda mouthpieces, and the Trump years crystalized that fact.

and https://nypost.com/2021/04/13/cnns-charlie-chester-says-network-peddled-anti-trump-propaganda/

Outlets like CNN and MSNBC are platforming con artists, skewing the news, and immersing the country in a flood of lies.

The Real Fake News Crisis in American Comes from the Corporate Media https://www.jacobinmag.com/2022/02/corporations-propoaganda-misinformation-cnn-cuomo-rogan

CNN made up entire stories - like the Covington Catholic fiasco, where they just flat out lied. Why is Trust in the Media Plummeting? Just look at CNN - https://www.theguardian.com/comment...lummeting-just-look-at-whats-happening-at-cnn

Fake News!

This results in people not trusting journalism, which makes it similar to authoritarian countries where they simply don't allow opposition journalism.
Even in authoritarian nations, people pirate journalism and get the real stories. Here in America there is no need, just cry "fake news", and claim CNN is so untrustworthy, and your loyal cult followers will ignore them and only consume right-wing media.

Over time, right-wing propaganda has brainwashed their followers. They have incorporated right-wing extremist views into their culture. At this point they are lost and even without a steady stream of poison from right-wing-media they are still lost, and cannot accept reality. Just look at the big lie...some huge percentage still thinks Trump won, when it was made up and has no evidence to support it, and all evidence is contrary to it.

By undermining legitimate journalism, they have helped destroy the nation, and it can't easily be undone. Interestingly enough, Fox news was party to this, and happily helped destroy confidence in their major competitors...

CNN is untrustworthy. That's not to say FoxNews is untrustworthy. But don't pretend your distrust of Foxnews is valid, but anyone who distrusts CNN is a cult follower. Jesus....

Always the false equivalence, claiming because CNN has some bias, it's therefore "as bad as " Fox. That's absurd.
Anyone can watch Hannity and Tucker and see the pure insanity that passes for programming on a news network. It's pure partisan propaganda, literally coordinated with the Republican party as we saw out in the open during the Trump presidency.
CNN/MSNBC are certainly biased towards reality and Democrats, but they don't push near the propaganda and lies that Fox pushes...it's not extremist in the last.

“Biased toward reality?”

🤣🤣🤣🤣

Tell it to Kyle Rittenhouse, Nick Sandmann, Paula Deen or anyone else the MSM chose to defame for the sake of virtue signaling.

CNN is worse than FoxNews. They aren't equivalent. CNN is way worse. You won't see anything close to the shit CNN pulls on FoxNews. CNN lied so bad with the Covington Catholic kids they SETTLED (they didn't lose, they voluntarily agreed to pay so they wouldn't risk an even bigger kick in the nuts at trial) they SETTLED for $275,000,000 for their lies.

CNN retracted a story in June of 2017 claiming that former Trump adviser Anthony Scaramucci was under investigation by Congress for his alleged ties to Russia. The story relied on one anonymous congressional source and CNN eventually confirmed the botched report and two CNN reporters had to resign in disgrace.

CNN reported in December 2017 that Trump Jr. received special access to documents stolen by WikiLeaks on Sept. 4, 2016. However, Donald Trump Jr. actually was emailed about the documents on Sept. 14, 2016 — a day after they were already available to the general public. CNN never explained how their "two anonymous sources" both gave them the wrong date.

Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said during a congressional hearing in May that three intelligence agencies — the CIA, NSA and the FBI — concluded that Russia interfered with the 2016 election. CNN has repeatedly claimed that all 17 intelligence agencies came to the same conclusion about Russian meddling. CNN’s claim is pure nonsense, as nothing of the kind was ever the case. Yet, Democrats still parrot that nonsense.

On June 6, 2017, CNN reported that former FBI director James Comey would contradict President Donald Trump’s claim that he was not under investigation. When the time came for Comey to release his opening statement for his congressional testimony, he actually ended up confirming Trump’s account.

When President Trump met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, they had a fish feeding ceremony. A video posted by CNN o showed Trump dumping his entire box of food into the koi pond unprompted, which was portrayed as a horrible insult. However, the full video shows Trump followed Abe's lead and did exactly as Abe did.

In May of 2017 when Republicans were authoring a new health care bill, CNN claimed that GOP changes to Obamacare could make rape and sexual assault pre-existing conditions. That was not true, as nothing in the changes effected the definition of preexisting conditions.

CNN ridiculously said in October of 2016 that possessing WikiLeaks stolen documents is “illegal,” but insisted it’s “different for the media.” “Also interesting is, remember, it’s illegal to possess these stolen documents. It’s different for the media. So everything you learn about this, you’re learning from us,” CNN reported. They basically argued that it'd be illegal to possess the Pentagon Papers, but it's not illegal for the press to possess and report on the Pentagon Papers. Lying idiots.

CNN originally denounced Trump’s claim in March of 2017 that former President Barack Obama was wiretapping phones in Trump Tower as a "flat out lie." But as we all know, it was since admitted by the FBI that the FBI was wiretapping and listening in on Trump Tower phones.

CNN reporter Jim Sciutto was just one network talking-head who claimed the Steele dossier was “initially paid for by Republicans.” However, that wasn't true - that was a lie. And, who did pay for it? The Democrats.

CNN claimed that only Democratic members of Congress gathered to pray before the 2017 Congressional Baseball Game — the first game after House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was shot and nearly killed. Photos and video evidence showed both teams, Republicans and Democrats both, coming together for the pre-game prayer. CNN lied again.

Yes, exactly.

You know how people remember where they were the moment they heard about some national disaster like the Kennedy assassination or 9/11? Sean Spicer's first press briefing the day after the inauguration is seared into mine.

Angry tone, wearing a too-big borrowed jacket, "Largest attendance at an inauguration, ever. PERIOD." It gave me chills, literally. I could see what was coming.

The posters here who have swallowed it are all casualties of Trump's war against the truth.

After a school shooting in Parkland, Florida, CNN media reporter Brian Stelter accused Republican congressmen of being “scared” to come on the network to debate gun control. Anchor Chris Cuomo specifically called out Texas Senator Ted Cruz for not rising to the challenge. But Sen. Cruz had done a 15 minute interview with CNN EARLIER THAT DAY!!!! He blasted the network for airing “NONE” of his interview and noted that he had previously done three town hall debates on CNN. So, CNN interviewed him that day, didn't air it, and then reported that Cruz had refused to come on because he was too scared.

Nancy Sinatra made a quick joke about her late father’s song, “My Way,” being used at Trump’s Inauguration in January 2017. She tweeted in response to the news to “just remember the first line of the song” — which is, “And now, the end is near.” CNN spun Sinatra’s tweet into an article claiming she was “not happy” about Trump using her father’s song at the Inauguration. She responded - “That’s not true. I never said that. Why do you lie, CNN? What a rotten spin ... " - Rotten spinners at CNN.

Remember when CNN said that Trump didn't think Japanese car manufacturers built cars in the US, because he was asking them to try building them here? That was a total lie and a misquote. CNN made it up.

The coverage of Kyle Rittenhouse alone should clue you in.

The list goes on and on and on.

Most people can distinguish reliable news from partisan commentary, Trump loyalists choose not to.

You still mindlessly swallow 99% of the lies that were told to you by your leftist media...and you want to cry about 'fake news'? Hell...even after its been exposed as lies you still dutifully regurgitate it. How is anyone supposed to take anything you or any leftist on this site seriously?

🤣

So right wing propagandists lied about the size of Trump’s inauguration audience, while left wing propagandists lied about Russian collusion. Guess which one is more heinous.

It provided a bipartisan Senate imprimatur for an extraordinary set of facts: The Russian government disrupted an American election to help Mr. Trump become president, Russian intelligence services viewed members of the Trump campaign as easily manipulated, and some of Mr. Trump’s advisers were eager for the help from an American adversary.
