Ben Stein:

“Out there, there are riots and people shooting each other. And supposedly serious people are pretending it’s a big civil rights issue whether a fat sweaty 70-year-old man can sit in a toilet stall next to your five-year-old daughter. And a man takes a semi-automatic sporting rifle, and he’s a Muslim. And he’s shouting that he’s going to kill all the people he can in an Orlando nightclub in the name of Allah and ISIS — and the media are debating what his motivation was. And they’re blaming a piece of metal, a totally inert piece of metal, for the murderous acts of a crazy man. And we’re supposed to believe that Islam is a religion of peace… I’ll make this short: the rest of the world is going nuts.”

Classic Ben Stein massive pile of straw.

The only straw is in your post. Can you refute any of Stein's comments? No? Didn't think so.

Sure. Let's look at his phrasing.

And supposedly serious people are pretending it’s a big civil rights issue whether a fat sweaty 70-year-old man can sit in a toilet stall next to your five-year-old daughter.
Why do you think he went with "fat" and "sweaty" and made the man 70? And why do you think he picked your daughter out? Pulling at emotional heartstrings. Trying to get you to picture Jabba the Hutt licking his lips while ogling YOUR PRECIOUS LITTLE GIRL. It's nonsense.

And a man takes a semi-automatic sporting rifle, and he’s a Muslim. And he’s shouting that he’s going to kill all the people he can in an Orlando nightclub in the name of Allah and ISIS — and the media are debating what his motivation was.
Hilariously oversimplified. Supposedly Ben Stein is ignoring any nuance. Right wingers often do. See, "in the name of Allah" isn't sufficient detail. They want to know why. Why kill people. Why that club. Why target homosexuals. There's more to violence than "a book told him to." If you don't see that, I feel sorry for you.
And they’re blaming a piece of metal, a totally inert piece of metal, for the murderous acts of a crazy man.
No. They aren't. They're suggesting that easy access to tools that can cause serious harm contributes to the frequency and magnitude of these events. Have you ever seen a headline "50 killed by man with baseball bat?" In mass stabbings, the number of deaths is usually quite low. The tool matters, and how easy it is to get that tool matters. If we'd sold nuclear bombs for ten bucks at Wal-Mart we wouldn't have a country anymore.

So maybe, just maybe, we can make it a little harder for madmen, drug dealers, murderers, and terrorists to get bigger, more dangerous weapons. "BUT DEUCE," you immediately vomit onto message boards "CRIMINALS WILL STILL GET GUNS." No ****, sherlock. But a black market AR-15 in Australia can cost tens of thousands of dollars. Criminals can drop $15,000 on a handgun. It makes a difference. Are they still going to get guns? Yes. Are they still going to kill people? Yes. What, you have an option that stops all crime, do you? I'm all ears.
And we’re supposed to believe that Islam is a religion of peace
Words in a book don't make you into a murderer. Murderers use books as a justification. Sometimes. When the worst people in history didn't have a book, they just wrote one.

When things not going your way means everyone else is crazy... that makes your sympathizers sympathizers of what pathology, exactly?

He is right the world is going nuts.
Trump Vs Clinton it makes no sense they are both horrible

The world isn't 'going nuts'. Some of the people in it have always been nuts. This is nothing new.

But the world will survive because most people are sane.

I could argue that, as with the over eight thousand dead per year as a result of gun-related homicides, "we are successfully dealing with it" and no additional action need be taken. Mateen is dead, problem solved. Moving on...

What we are seeing is the total failure of progressivism/socialism driven by political correctness.

Of course it looks nutty when you have progressives trying to turn the Orlando massacre into domestic gun violence when it was an act of terrorism carried out by an radical islamist Muslim.

Of course it looks nutty when a group of Democrats stage a sit in singing "WE SHALL OVERCOME" Thinking people ask overcome what? The Constitution? The Second Amendment? Due Process?

What exactly would change if Obama called them every offensive name we know?

Leftists have always been nuts. They just seems nuttier than usual lately. :)

Right-wing stupidity.

A lot of factors add up to the world going nuts: i.e. too many people crowding it (like rats in a cage); intellectuals producing few children/while third world countries are overproducing people; a super vast and fast media that likes to cover negative events rather than positive.

It's not about name calling. It's about being honest about the cause behind the threat. The threat isn't guns. The threat is radicalized Muslims. Every piece of legislation proposed on gun control would not have stopped Mateen, Farrook or the major at Ft. Hood from carrying out their attacks. They were not on any lists even though the FBI had files on them.

There are relatively few radical Muslim terrorists, and not all are even Muslim. I would be offended if every time some criminal that was raised Christian killed someone the news media presented it as terrorist Christian murders. If we demonize all Muslims it wonbt be long until Christians or Jews or some other religious group is next. It is funny the RW can be so sensitive to the war on Christmas or any other perceived or made up offensives against us Christians, but insist on being offensive as possible to everyone else.

Yes that pretty much is the issue. What is so wrong with you that you don't see how people can be concerned about that?

Sure. Let's look at his phrasing.

Just to shine a little light on this, according to FBI stats, the murders committed using a rifle decrease from year to year through 2011 on this chart:

https://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/u...s.-2011/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-8

Chart after chart after chart will show that knives or other cutting instruments are used far more often than rifles in murders.

Murder by rifle is comparatively rare in the US compared almost all other weapons including body parts like hands and feet.

Arte we to outlaw hands and feet as well?

What exactly would change if Obama called them every offensive name we know?

The bad people would realize the errors of their ways and change for the better!

When things not going your way means everyone else is crazy... that makes your sympathizers sympathizers of what pathology, exactly?

You got that thought out of that post?

Seems to me that he was wondering how the shrieking ideologues arrived at an illogical, agenda driven conclusion and you counter that by asserting an illogical, agenda driven conclusion.

Classic!

When things not going your way means everyone else is crazy... that makes your sympathizers sympathizers of what pathology, exactly?

So you think it's rational to consider a man screaming that he's killing people in the name of his radical beliefs and concluded that his gun is at fault?

You think it's rational to be completely unconcerned that men are to be allowed to go into girl's bathrooms, and to shower contempt on people who are concerned about that?

If he was shouting that he was killing in the name of Christ, might that lead you to believe that he was killing in the name of Christ?

I dunno, but I bet a few of the bad guys have said, "Oh God!" as the cops shoot them. Does the right seriously make the argument since they are saying Allah Akbar they must be good practicing Muslims?
If he was shouting that he was killing in the name of Christ, might that lead you to believe that he was killing in the name of Christ?

Australia is a bad example....not enough people or guns there to matter, compared to the US. 24 million people in Aussieland vs. 324 million in the USA! Get Real!
3 million guns over there...about 500 million here. GET REAL!!!

Also this:

IT SHOULD be troubling to Australian governments that since 1988, after more than 1 million guns have been destroyed as a result of government buyback programs, numerous amnesties, voluntary returns, the banning of semi-automatic weapons and the tightening of gun import controls, the number of guns in private hands in Australia is as large as it has ever been.
It's not hard to see why. Since 1988, while governments have been running
a variety of gun control programs, 1,055,082 firearms have been imported into the country, an average of almost 44,000 a year. As a result, there are now as many guns in private hands in Australia as there was at the time of the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, when there were an estimated 3.2 million firearms in the country.
Three million guns is more than enough

Stein is pulling at emotional heartstrings? Really. obozo does it all the time....and he lies when he speaks!

Were you this revved up over Pressure cooker bombs(Boston), fertilizer bombs(OK, City), pipe bombs(San Bernadino) or air liner attacks(NYC, DC and Penn.)????

I mean how many idiot liberals were calling for restrictions on any of those? GET REAL!!!
