What should be done about it?
Not sure what can be done. The global food market was always volatile, the removal of two big providers will create a shortage that will have reprecusions all over the Globe. Maybe there are ways to press the price down? If there are they should be explored.

We also of course have a situation where some countries produce way more food than others, which is fine, but they sell it for quite a price. Maybe there need to be more international agreements to keep the price of food down.

Price controls never work. While there likely isnt a short term solution beyond hand outs, maybe they could start now preventing the next disruption. Diversify food, less population, spend less time on war, produce greater wealth, have reserves, etc.

The middle east is oil rich, and needs food, the US is food rich, and needs oil. Seems like a perfect trade.
