The disaster was terrible - 19 killed children, 2 killed teachers IIRC. Then it got worse.

We had the governor rush in to get the spotlight to tell the story of the heroic officers. Oops. He later he announced he was furious - and no one was disciplined, as the police chief took his city council seat, secretly sworn in apparently illegally.

Then the story started to fall apart. The teacher who left the gate open? Nope. The police chief who confronted the suspect? No, he missed him, went right by and detained a teacher. Saying he hadn't realized he was in charge during the event, and didn't have his radio with him, not knowing what was going on.

Then there were at least 19 officers standing outside the room, for like an hour, while the gunman continued to shoot, with children calling 911. Police weren't doing nothing - they were preventing parents from trying to save their children, which is the best thing they did.

But they just couldn't get the door open for an hour, until finally getting a key.

Except then video showed they never tried the door. And reporting found the door couldn't be locked from the inside.

But the officers explained they didn't have proective gear. Except that video footage shows they did, placed on the ground unused.

And now, one of the shot teachers called her husband - who was an Uvalde police officer, who tried to go save her - and other officers detained him and disarmed him and prevented his going in.

Defund the cowardly police

I guess only 19 "good guys with guns" wasn't quite enough .... so ... make a note: We'll have to revise that often repeated axiom to read,
"The solution to a bad guy with a gun is at least 20 good guys with guns!"
Big difference, eh?

If only we had universal background checks, red flag laws, and magazine restrictions then the police response would not have been so messed up

No. The police response might still have sucked, but perhaps would not have been required at all. If it had been, the young bastard could not have amassed all that firepower, in such a short period of time. So, at the very least, less injuries and less death.

Over 1,600 rounds, 60 magazines, and those two guns purchased just the day before by an 18 year old, should not have gone unnoticed, so the entire event might not have happened.

After reading that, do you want to put your safety in the hands of the cops?

Amazing isn't it, it almost as if 18 year olds are running around bearing enough firepower to fend off a tyrannical government or something.

No one can carry enough firepower to fight off a 'tyrannical government'.
This isn't 1776.
Handguns/rifles are no protection AT ALL from advanced, weapon systems.

All the government has to know is where you are located.
Then, they get an F-16 - flying at 25,000 feet - equipped with a JDAM bomb; to drop it on your head.
You wouldn't even know it was coming until a second or two before it hit...if that.
And even if you knew - you couldn't stop it.

The gun bunnies idea that the citizens need guns to fight off 'tyrannical governments' is LONG gone.
They will have to come up with another excuse.

I'll repeat what I said recently. I thought they said we HAVE a tyrannical government, with Biden, and that he stole the presidency. So, why haven't the gun owners prevented tyranny?

I said it before, and I'll say it again. If Deputy Scot Peterson was fired for his 4 minutes of cowardice during the Parkland shooting in Florida, then every one of these COPs in Uvalde should have been fired for their 40 minutes of cowardice. There is absolutely no excuse for not entering the school immediately upon arrival, except for sheer cowardice.

The officers that detained the one officer from entering should be charged with accessory to murder, since they aided and abetted the murderer.

sure I have no problem with reporting a large purchase of equipment to the FBI, IF they will look into the matter.

once they had more than 5 officers on the scene, the police should have gone in and stopped the guy. that much is clear. if they cannot do that, they should not be police.

local laws should be passed in every district in the country stating that the police DO have a responsibility to stop violent crimes.

Today's police are useless.

Time to rethink the whole thing.

The kid might not have had the rifle, the police might not have been so afraid, those things could really have made a difference.

I agree. Cops should also be liable in a civil court for not doing their jobs, which is to protect the public.

if the police are so afraid to do their job in lieu of facing a .223 or 5.56 in a rifle, they build steel shields that can stop those rounds cold at 3 feet.

if it was up to you, that off duty CBP officer wouldn't have had access to the shotgun he needed to save those children.

The kid might of had a lightsaber and gone all Anakin on the school kids raising the death toll. That would ha made a big difference.

You just have to deflect with a ridiculous, stupid comment. It's almost like you can't help it.

Chillfolks would like you all to know that he finds this all ****ing hilarious.

You mean like how for weeks people kept deflecting away from the police response to gun control until it became painfully obvious the police response played a significant role in the disaster. Or do you consider the failures of the police a deflection because you would rather use this tragedy to talk about gun control and not the police incompetence? Either way enjoy your Gouda

If you’re such a good mind reader what type of off should you be doing?

Another memo from the land zero evidence.

the barber he got the gun from didn't run any sort of background check before giving him the gun, nor should he have. However, the gun control crowd would make it impossible for such an acquisition to occur. Do you really want the "good guys" to waste time debating if how they're acquiring a gun is legal in an emergency situation?

as for the uvalde cops, i think it's clear its their leadership that's to blame. Those on scene were ready to go, but were never given the order, and now their police chief isn't cooperating with the governor's investigation, hiring lawyers to hold up every process. somethin' ain't right there, and this could be far bigger, and far more corrupt than we know.....

my money is on the FBI, or some intelligence service, telling their police dept. to let the shooter get a body count for their own political purposes.
