The Uvalde disaster - there's even more

So, while that other poster was making baseless assumptions and putting words in your mouth and yadda yadda yadda... you would not, in fact, permit that off-duty Border Patrol to have had the 12 gauge shotgun with which he stopped the shooting. Sure, sure, he was guessing... but he guessed correctly.

You don't want us to assume that you don't support private citizens having their (currently legal) handguns for self-defense, because we're "such frightened people", but... do you, actually? Are you opposed to further laws restricting the availability and variety of handguns that currently legal (not counting people disqualified by violent misdemeanors) handgun owners may purchase?

Just to be clear, that off duty BP did not stop the shooting.

You do realize there is a flip side to that coin right? I've seen numerous people on the right who will NEVER side against police and GF was a perfect example. In their eyes Chauvin was a hero. There were also examples with this incident where people defended the response by stating LE shouldn't be expected to risk their lives to take down an active shooter.
sure but they seem fewer and far between comparatively.

on the 2nd issue, then they are worth next to nothing to the average american citizen. they have been given the equipment to deal with these threats that will aid them to NOT risk their lives so much if used properly and they need to use it.

Just to be clear, that off duty BP did not stop the shooting.
Thank you. I do not want to be responsible for spreading misinformation, or asking questions based on false premises. If the off-duty agent wasn't responsible for ending the shooting then it really doesn't matter (for our purposes) whether or not he should have had the right to have that pump-action shotgun with him.

I think we can all agree that more guns or even any guns can only stop a mass shooting until after it's already far too late. Just like... there's always at least one more victim than anyone wants to talk about, and a mass shooting isn't really solved unless it's stopped before it's too late to save that one.

Updates; the so-called police chief resigned from the City Council he recently joined, and the mayor is showing how good Texas government is, saying the state police department is covering up what happened from him and the public, and calling on the governor to return, whose spokesperson says he will but won't say when.

Texas is hoping current events will leave Uvalde a distant memory.

I looked but didn't see this posted anywhere. It's the videos both outside and inside the school:

Actually, that is not their job. The job of law enforcement is to enforce the law. Not to "protect and serve" despite what it may say on their squad cars.

What they overlook is that the individual is part of the collective and is consequently entitled to at least a fraction of their attention. The other factor is limited police resources. Obviously the NYPD couldn't prioritise burglary calls during 9/11. So the tax payer can also be at fault sometimes for not providing enough officers to patrol a high-crime area. Perhaps different tax rates could entitle you to a priority service! Jokes aside, police negligence can be culpable if they defied standard training protocol.

"The duty to provide public services is owed to the public at large, and, absent a special relationship between the police and an individual, no specific legal duty exists".
