Over 750 Military Bases Across 80 Countries: How US Military Overshadows China In Projecting Power Overseas

So what? 🤷‍♂️

Overseas U.S. military installations serve various purposes. Many are logistics and or personnel related, and of the 750 total installations, a large percentage have only a few hundred military personnel assigned.

The vast majority of them are about the size of a city block and have about a company of troops, most of them non-combat arms.

@Antiwar doesn't want to hear any facts that don’t support his “America is a militaristic, whole world bully”.

Like anytime I see those lists of hundreds of numbers of US bases done specifically for shock value, I just shake my head.

When I was stationed in Germany, we had 5 Kaserne within a few miles of each other, all of them pretty small (a handful of acres) except for our main base. But that counts as “5 bases” for the purposes of such a list.

One of my buddies who was stationed in Japan was on a “base” that was literally one single block. There’s a “base” in Miami that’s a single building (not foreign but it gets the point across).

Which facts would you like to discuss that shows how the USG isn't militaristic: Military spending, nuclear arsenal size, pollution, deployed forces, mission?

And Ukraine is also militaristic. It’s the only thing keeping them from being steamrolled by a foreign dictator’s invasion.

Why hasn’t your beloved “International Justice System” sent cops to Moscow to arrest Putin? He’d just give up without a fight, right?

Quoting:

US military base sites fall under two main categories:

Large bases or “Bases”: Defined as military installations larger than 4 hectares (10 acres) or worth more than $10 million. These bases typically have in excess of 200 US military personnel. 439 or 60 percent of the US’s foreign bases fall under this category.

Small bases or “Lily Pads”:
These bases are smaller than 4 hectares(10 acres) or have a value of less than $10 million. These include cooperative security locations and forward operating sites. The remaining 40 percent of US foreign bases fall under this category.

According to global US military deployment data published in the Conflict Management and Peace Science Journal, the US had around 173,000 troops deployed in 159 countries as of 2020.

What kind of person is against international justice? It's such a bizarre position to take. And this person considers themself to be left-libertarian.

Which of your above stated categories is “militaristic” and why do you think so?

“Or worth more than $10 million” is such a weasel qualification.

You park one of my old unit’s intel gathering trucks on a base and suddenly it’s worth more than $10 million.

All of them. There might be one or two metrics where the USG is not the #1 militaristic government in the world and ever.

If you don't believe that the USG is militaristic, then you must believe that the US military is weak. Are you going to take that position?

militaristic
adjective

supporting the idea of having powerful armed forces in a country

For instance having an armed forces capable of defeating a foreign invader.

As an anti-militarist, you want countries to have militaries too weak to stop hostile militarists from conquering them.
