It appears that Trump's policies concerning science and his attempts to control scientific investigations has begun to force scientists to flee to other countries to be able to use their talents without the interference of a highly political and controlling government. Of course, these other countries, seeing a huge opportunity to get ahead of the USA are actively recruiting our best, offering the opportunity that once existed in this country. This will create huge problems for this country in only a few years as one of our greatest strengths has been our ability to stay ahead of most countries in this area. Will Trump blame this on Biden or Obama?

The Know Nothing Party, also known as the American Party, was a prominent anti-immigrant and anti-Catholic political party in the United States during the 1850s. It originated from a secret society called the Order of the Star Spangled Banner, whose members, when asked about the organization, would respond "I know nothing". This led to the party's popular nickname, the Know Nothings.

The party's core beliefs and platform included:
  • Nativism:
    .

A strong preference for native-born Americans over immigrants, fueled by fears of foreign influence and cultural change.

  • Anti-Catholicism:
    .

Hostility towards Catholics, particularly Irish Catholic immigrants, stemming from concerns about the Pope's influence and the perceived threat to American Protestant values.

  • Restrictions on Immigration:
    .

Advocated for longer residency requirements for naturalization and restrictions on voting rights for immigrants.

  • Preservation of American Culture:
    .

Sought to protect what they considered traditional American culture and values from perceived threats posed by immigrants.
Rise and Fall:
The Know Nothing Party gained considerable traction in the mid-1850s, particularly in the North, fueled by anti-immigrant sentiment and economic anxieties. They achieved some electoral successes, winning control of the Massachusetts legislature and polling strongly in other states. However, their national ambitions were hampered by internal divisions over the issue of slavery, with northern anti-slavery members eventually joining the newly formed Republican Party. By the late 1850s, the Know Nothing Party's influence waned as the slavery debate intensified and the Republican Party emerged as the primary opposition to the Democrats."

I was working on a post on this very theme. For now, I'll just add this cite:

Gifted.

My point, basically, is this: a century ago, Germany went through this same paroxysm. 50 years ago, it was the USSR. We (the US) were the beneficiary of the flight of the greatest minds in science (particularly physics) and kept that advantage for most of the century. History is now reversing itself, and for the same reason. An autocrat who disparages science is in charge and great minds will flee to better pastures. Our star will dim for generations. This will be hard to reverse.

Trump and his cultists seem to believe that we will somehow stay ahead in science without any scientists.

Divine inspiration, they will pray and sleep with a Bible under their pillow.

That will provide the inspiration for the next scientific breakthrough proving angels cause gravity by pushing everything down
