The US Navy is back in the Black Sea, sending a message to Moscow

The USS Fort McHenry, part of the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group, has entered the Black Sea.

The U.S. Navy’s dock landing ship Fort McHenry pulled into the Romanian port of Constanta on Monday for what officials term a “routine port visit” after transiting the Dardanelles Strait from the Mediterranean Sea the day before. That makes Fort McHenry the first American warship to enter the Eastern European waterway since Russia seized three Ukrainian vessels on Nov. 25 in the Kerch Strait. “We routinely operate in the Black Sea consistent with international law and the Montreux Convention and will continue to do so,” said Navy 6th Fleet spokesman Cmdr. Kyle Raines.

No, Russian does not own the Black Sea like Putin believes. Hopefully, the USS Fort McHenry will travel to the Ukraine port city of Odesa next.

24 Ukrainian sailors, kidnapped on the high seas on November 25, remain in a Moscow prison. The 'brave' Russian navy wouldn't dare mess with a US warship.

I am surprised Putin gave Trump permission.

I'm sure Putin is delighted that Trump is pissing away more money on another useless show of force. 100 to one odds that the ship doesn't proceed to the Sea of Azov.

Could you post a quote from a legit news source where Putin said that Russia owns the Black Sea?

Are you sure this is flexing our muscle?
I see it as guarding our foreign investment properties.

Back - post Christmas.

Great comments by Dave and PoS. What a lot of nonsense RV posts. More pathetic signalling in relation to western made hysteria.

Note that Russia has never called the Black Sea its own lake. But as a matter of military practicality, it could be, if you madmen pushed the issue, and a poxy US warship means nothing.

Kidnapping foreign sailors on the Black Sea is a fairly good indication of his thoughts. Derp.

Arresting foreign spies within near shore limits is not kidnapping.

So you just made it up then. As expected.

Putin telegraphed his thoughts here. If you can't divine them, then that's on you Petr.

Russian permission to enter UKRAINIAN WATERS?

Since when?

The Kerch Strait is 12 miles accross. Gonna need Russian permission within 12 mile limit.\/

~ I am glad we finally have a president who stands up for the USA. CHINA is a good example.
