Forty years ago, Volker Schlöndorff's "The Tin Drum" won the Academy Award for best foreign film. A digitally restored version is now released in theaters.
With his film adaptation of Günter Grass' novel The Tin Drum, filmmaker Volker Schlöndorff won Germany's first best foreign language film Oscar in 1980. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the award, an elaborately restored version in the high-resolution 4K format was initially due to be released in April 2020 — this, however, was postponed to August due to the global coronavirus outbreak.
Germany′s first Oscar-winning feature film: ′The Tin Drum′ returns | Film | DW | 31.08.2020

I do not recall much from my first viewing of The Tin Drum. I do remember the protagonist, Oskar, and his banging on the drum as well as his screaming. It all seemed very bizarre. I do not believe I could sit through it again. The time when Germany went mad. It was no wonder that little Oskar did not want to grow up.

I watched it probably the year after it came out(at about 16ish) on HBO. I struggled to follow what was going on, and what all the obvious symbolism was, but thought highly of the look of the film. The biggest thing I remember though was the guy(s?) fishing for eels with a horse head. Really disgusting.

Oh yes; those eels. I have never eaten an eel.
