The cheers from the audience were not a faux pas. They were people showing how ill-informed they are. And Trump's not correcting and taking faux credit for it, shows what a narcissist he is. It's all about him, even when it's wrong as long as it is about him and makes him look good. It wasn't a faux pas on his part. And, as for Rep. McClain, she must really be stupid - either for not knowing it was Obama, or for thinking she could say such a thing, even knowing it was a lie, and no one would catch her in her lie. A faux pas is a mistake, not a showing of ignorance or self-aggrandizement. Here we have examples of stupidity and self-centeredness. No faux pas. The attack on democracy began even before election day with efforts to undermine the returns before most of the ballots were even cast and continued right past Jan 6. We now have a new template to turn an election loss into a fund-raising bonanza. Trump raised more than 207.5 million pouring in after election day for 'legal challenges' by Dec 4 2020 about 75% of which went nowhere near a law firm. That's one hell of a motive in every municipal, county, state and federal election loss across this country to attack every result up and down the ballot. The corrosive impact will be a partisan poison to democracy as losing candidates flood the courts, the airwaves and social media with tales of pillow cases full of ballots being dumped down toilets or burned in bonfires, bizarre conspiracies involving nefarious voting machines, and efforts to redefine the American voter as a victim or a cheater. The campaigns will have a field day buying and selling the lists of the partisan schmucks who drag out their credit cards 'to save democracy' to Superpacs .

I won't go into the other side partisan 'benefits' to these legal challenges but rest assured, any candidate who walks away from a defeat graciously, without taking this new opportunity to lengthen campaign season and fuel partisan division and mistrust through these allegations, will be putting his own future, and his party at a competitive disadvantage.
