As the video in this link demonstrates, 30,000 people working together to do mischief can do quite a bit of mischief.

Even assuming that the portion of the folks who actually entered the Capitol was only around 500 strong of the 30,000, the damage was remarkably slight. A sign of respect from the folks who entered.
