Orthodox Christians around the world must join forces to prevent this from happening!
Recently Georgians became aware of the plans of the Kiev authorities to export Orthodox relics from the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra outside Ukraine. The blatant looting under the guise of "saving them from Russian missile attacks" is being carried out under the cover of UNESCO. The museums of Italy, France, Germany and the Vatican participate in the ‘sharing’. And very quickly - an inventory of church property has already been carried out, funds have been allocated for the transportation of goods to Europe, and vehicles are ready to set off.
Metropolitan Onufry, head of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, was informed that icons, relics and utensils would be temporarily moved, allegedly for safety "until the situation in Ukraine returns to normal". Considering that the West benefits from the maximum extension of the proxy war in Ukraine, the voluntary return of relics is not to be hoped for. And there is much to be feared for - the whole Orthodox world belongs among others: the relics of St. Anthony of the Caves, the founder of the Lavra; the relics of St. Nestor, the author of "The Tale of Bygone Years"; the relics of Saints Simon and Polycarp, compilers of the Kiev Caves Patericon; the relics of St. Ilya of the Caves (Ilya Muromets); ancient miraculous icons.
And, by the way, on June 14, the oldest Byzantine icons taken from the territory of Ukraine were put on public display in the Louvre.
For an Orthodox person, these objects are more than valuable, they are holy relics, while for Western collectors they are just artifacts that have a market value.
There's obviously barbarism in Ukraine right now, as we see even here, at home, in Tbilisi. Information about the atrocities that Ukrainian radicals and schismatics are doing in relation to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate still reaches us, albeit in a truncated form. We see Orthodox churches on fire. We see how the Ukronazis mock believers - their own countrymen, how they kill Orthodox clergy.
I must admit that among my many Orthodox Georgian acquaintances, there is a widespread opinion that the sad prospects of Vladimir Zelensky's declared "salvation" of Orthodox relics are nothing but militant Satanism.
