The shameless revisionism of the Capitol attack cannot be allowed to take root

4/3/21
Come Tuesday, it will be three months since supporters of Donald Trump staged a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol. Not much time at all, really. But the former president and his enablers have been hard at work trying to persuade Americans not to believe what we all saw with our own eyes that day. “It was zero threat,” Trump told friendly Fox News host Laura Ingraham last month. “Some of them went in, and they’re hugging and kissing the police and the guards, you know? They had great relationships.” Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) told a radio host that the rioters were “people that love this country, that truly respect law enforcement, would never do anything to break the law,” and added: “I never felt threatened.” This kind of shameless revisionism cannot be allowed to take root. It is important to keep fresh in our memories the true sights and sounds of that day — a day when Congress was supposed to be performing its duty to certify the electoral college tally of the 2020 election. A day when democracy itself came under attack by faux patriots. The whole country witnessed an insurrectionist mob, which Trump later referred to as “very special” people, breaching the building and going on a rampage. More than 350 individuals have since been charged in violence that left five people dead and about 140 police officers injured.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has instructed the House historian’s office to collect video interviews of individual lawmakers who were there. But much more is needed. Efforts to put together an independent 9/11-style commission to examine what happened and why have been stalled in part because of Republican insistence on expanding its mission to antifa and other issues unrelated to Jan. 6. Reps. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) and Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.), the chairman and ranking minority-party member, respectively, of a subcommittee that oversees the Capitol Police, recently wrote a letter calling for the release of an upcoming report by the Capitol Police’s inspector general that would examine how the legislative branch’s law enforcement agency performed three months ago. “In the wake of the January 6th attack that shook the confidence of so many Americans, taking a more open and transparent approach isn’t just the right thing to do, it will be the most effective as we seek to restore citizens’ confidence that the heart of America’s government is secure,” the two lawmakers wrote. The truth is the least of what we owe the public servants whose lives were on the line that day. And just as important, it is what we owe ourselves.

And the sad truth is that Republicans DO NOT want an honest accounting of the events leading up to and including the Trump Insurrection at the US Capitol on January 6th.

We all know what we all saw. The Republican's are terrified of the unvarnished January 6 truth because many of them were simpatico with Trump's attempt to overturn the 2020 election via violence at the Capitol.

The single greatest weapon that tyrants have over their evil history is covering it up.

We must never forget 1/06/2021, the day we came very close to losing our democracy. We must never let the fascists silence the truth.

It was an insurrection.

Damn right !!!!

They fear the impact on upcoming elections long term. Notice major focus on voter suppression as well. We the majority should be demanding a grand jury investigation on the voter suppression with federal indictments as a result.

How in the hell can any organization see Rump as an effective tool? Is this crook still trying to shake down voters for campaign dollars?

Not a display of a voter respect IMO.

Keep pushing voter registration, automatic voter registration at age 18, encourage voters to follow up to be sure none have been purged, help our parents with the same ..... and election day as a holiday which does not necessarily prevent anyone from reporting in for employment after voting.

Also I have been pushing no more presidential appointments for judges and some cabinet positions. The USA needs people with experience, credentials and demonstrated ability to restrain from personal agenda.

Republicans have been in insurrection apology and/or denial mode since the get go.

What happened on the sixth was that patriots engaged in a mostly peaceful protest against their government, only to be gunned down in cold blood.

It was an insurrection.
That was the revisionist story that has held sway before the facts started to emerge. OP does not want facts to dictate history.

The only people that believe that bullshit are traitors that either were there or wish they had been...

The whole lesson is on revisionism.

A planet that believes in revisionism fails, it is not admitted into the Spiritual world because of the chaos it would create.

History books around the world will assure it does not.
So will the long slow roll out of convictions coming shortly. There will be hundreds ranging from Trespass to Conspiracy. Some which may hold 20 year prison sentences. And some of those sentences will come from Trump's very own appointed lawyers. Bring em on, can't wait.

Nothing says peaceful like injuring 140 cops, some permanently, ransacking our seat of government, and doing so while you call for the execution of the Vice President and other leaders.

It was mostly peaceful.

Fortunately for you, there are tweets, pictures, videos and indictments that say otherwise.

All while flying traitor flags, wearing bullet proof vests and tactical body armor, carrying bear spray, muletalve cocktails, baseball bats and pipe bombs towing a gallows behind them....

I've seen a lot of the footage, I saw no one passing out flowers or love beads...

Drama Queen Parade

Drama Queen Parade

I agree. There were a hell of a lot of drama queens at the Capitol on January 6th who couldn't accept that they chose a terrible person to lead a terrible party and that is the reason they lost....terribly.

Nothing was stolen from them. They just got a reality check....something they could apparently use a lot more of.

It was an insurrection. Calling it revisionist history is a projection.
You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts. The facts say it was not an insurrection, no matter how far you stretch the definition.

Calling it insurrection may well be projection. you would have to ask yourself about that.

Facts are it was the very definition of an insurrection...
