Republicans to forego party platform in favor of full support for Trump’s agenda - MarketWatch

The Republican National Committee will go without a traditional policy platform at the upcoming GOP convention, and said instead it “will continue to enthusiastically support the president’s America-first agenda.”

In a statement issued Sunday, the RNC said it adopted a resolution Saturday to go without a platform due to the difficulties presented by the coronavirus pandemic, which has forced the convention to significantly scale back.

“The RNC has unanimously voted to forego the Convention Committee on Platform, in appreciation of the fact that it did not want a small contingent of delegates formulating a new platform without the breadth of perspectives within the ever-growing Republican movement,” the RNC said.

Folks, this is what fascism looks like:

RESOLUTION REGARDING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY PLATFORM

WHEREAS, The Republican National Committee (RNC) has significantly scaled back the size
and scope of the 2020 Republican National Convention in Charlotte due to strict restrictions on
gatherings and meetings, and out of concern for the safety of convention attendees and our hosts;

WHEREAS, The RNC has unanimously voted to forego the Convention Committee on Platform,
in appreciation of the fact that it did not want a small contingent of delegates formulating a new
platform without the breadth of perspectives within the ever-growing Republican movement;

WHEREAS, All platforms are snapshots of the historical contexts in which they are born, and
parties abide by their policy priorities, rather than their political rhetoric;

WHEREAS, The RNC, had the Platform Committee been able to convene in 2020, would have
undoubtedly unanimously agreed to reassert the Party’s strong support for President Donald
Trump and his Administration;

WHEREAS, The media has outrageously misrepresented the implications of the RNC not
adopting a new platform in 2020 and continues to engage in misleading advocacy for the failed
policies of the Obama-Biden Administration, rather than providing the public with unbiased
reporting of facts; and

WHEREAS, The RNC enthusiastically supports President Trump and continues to reject the
policy positions of the Obama-Biden Administration, as well as those espoused by the
Democratic National Committee today; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Republican Party has and will continue to enthusiastically support the
President’s America-first agenda;

RESOVLVED, That the 2020 Republican National Convention will adjourn without adopting a
new platform until the 2024 Republican National Convention;

RESOLVED, That the 2020 Republican National Convention calls on the media to engage in
accurate and unbiased reporting, especially as it relates to the strong support of the RNC for
President Trump and his Administration; and

RESOLVED, That any motion to amend the 2016 Platform or to adopt a new platform, including
any motion to suspend the procedures that will allow doing so, will be ruled out of order.

The trains, watch for the trains.

did they need to announce it?

What in the name of logic and politics is an “America First” agenda? Both parties have put America’s interests first, even if they define our interests or the way of insuring them differently at times. It seems, however, that some on the right assume that the words “a decent respect to the opinions of mankind” from the Declaration of Independence are akin to treason. The US, the most powerful and richest nation in the world, hardly needs a “US Uber Alles” policy to succeed in foreign or domestic policy. “America First” is the definition of vapid patriotism. Pearl Harbor ended the use of the phrase the last time it was fashionable.

It makes perfect sense that Republicans would choose to have no platform. They have to support Trump’s plans and since Trump has no plan there is no platform.

Trump has detailed his “plan” on Hannity’s show:

Have always hated "America First" slogan" Seems selfish to me, we have so much already. Could imagine some folks in other less fortunate countries seeing how badly we've managed the pandemic saying we're reaping what we sowed. Humbling imo.

They got in trouble last time when they threw Russia stuff in their platform.

Safer just to have it Trump worship.

The GOP declares to the world that it is no longer a party of principles, of policies or even of people. It stands only for the complete and unquestioning obedience to one man, his abuse of power and his contempt for for the law.

Its all about the white nationalism.

All that is missing is an oath of personal loyalty to Der Fuh... er, Donald.

That's what this is.

But individual ones, for everyone in the government and the party (they'll be one and the same), if he wins, its coming. You depend on it.

It's almost impossible to believe the democrats would accuse anyone of having no principles. They lie, spy on Americans, falsify evidence, allow illegal immigrants to stay ithe country nad protect criminals. LOL. Yeah just who we need in the White House.

This is pathertic rubbish of course. But more to my point, the GOP just declared that they don't stand for any principles, or policies, or people. They declared that they stand for one man, and whatever he says or does.

Now, like a good liberal, I am going to backtrack a bit. I think our relative isolation from other countries’ more cosmopolitan - for want of a better term - points of view (plus our size, our power, how we may travel less internationally than Europeans) may lend us a bit of naïveté as to how we are perceived. Obama had the temerity to express regret at some of our actions and he was accused of apologizing. I think we may not realize it if we come across as arrogant at times. Yet my international travels find a great admiration for our national character from critics of our policies. It’s the contradiction of the US.

Where on Earth is this coming from?

You understand that the DNC consisted of four days of "principles" (not policies so much) that had very little to do with Biden, who spoke very little about multiculturalism during his campaign.
.
The purpose of the RNC is to make the case to the electorate why they should re-elect Trump.

The Democratic Party has a platform that consists of their policies and principles. Its something every party does in a democracy. Having a party turn itself over to the interests of one man is about as undemocratic as you can get. This is Putin/Nazi stuff. And if Trump wins, its going to be loyalty oaths for everyone in government, as the government and the party become one and the same and under the control of one man.

Oh, give me a break. If democrats had said there was no need to come up with any ideas other than Obama’s, the GOP would run ads of them goose-stepping across their convention floor or suggesting that the dem convention resembled Hitler’s Nuremberg rally.

And protecting criminals? How many war criminals that the armed forces wanted to prosecute did Obama pardon? He was so tough on illegals he was called the “deporter in Chief” by immigrants’ advocates.

How in God's name are you getting the idea that the Republican Party doesn't have a platform lol?

The only difference here between the DNC and the RNC is that the RNC is actually geared towards their candidate, whereas the DNC had very little to do with anything Biden discussed on the campaign trail. Almost like Joe had no say in anything that went on prior to his speech.

And what policies were discussed during that four day Marx Fest?

The most important thing I learned from watching the DNC was that brown and black people are awesome. And white people, for the most part, suck.

Their platform is the same crap it's always been, even under Trump. Tax cuts for the wealthy, and stack the SC and courts in general with right wing hack judges. The only difference now is that they have a troll president who makes the libs angry. But besides that? The agenda or "platform" would be the same drivel it's always been even if it were a President Rubio or Jeb Bush in office now.

You need to get into a time machine and come back to the year 2020.

And, while you're at it, actually watch the RNC.

Yet the nominee is a white guy, chosen by mostly minority voters, specifically blacks.

Nonsense like this is why you guys lose elections.
