Some of us in the United States of America have, at times, difficulty separating fact from national mythos. We think of America as a nation of 'law and order' while incarcerating a larger percent of our population than any other modern democracy*, suggesting that many of us do not practice that belief. We are, in our own minds, 'law-abiding citizens' as a preponderance of us violate the most basic laws and regulations while driving our cars. We praise our medical system while the statistics for infant mortality and longevity, to cite two, show us in other than first place. And so it goes.

We would do well to see and acknowledge who and what we really are from time to time. It's a healthy thing to do. We're not all that bad, nor all that good. [Ed.: It also debunks whole areas of political palaver.]

So what is drawing on all the hand wringing is 110 incidents in 2020, 7 of them involved active-duty or reserve personnel. 7 out of how many tens of thousands of active-duty and reserves? Compared to over 110+ nights of terror in Portland plus other cities, seems their focus is misplaced.

Just noting - the CSIS report noted 1 incident in 2019 and 6 in 2020 (7 in two years). The 'increase' was from 1 to 6. Even it noted that the number itself wasn't significant, but that the increase was concerning. It could also be an outlier - especially given that 2020 had a global pandemic and recession.
