Lucianne.com has been around for a long time. It is a news accumulation site that only allows postings about stories in professional media outlets, never blogs or the like. New postings are put up by users all day long, but brief commentary from the editors is put up once a day, following the traditional news cycle. Users are encouraged to comment on posts also. Years ago this meant that most of the postings were about stories in the mainstream media, i.e., NY Times, Wash Post, WSJ, etc. Users would go to work on those posts to provide a right wing perspective through their comments. But now the alternative media has grown up to the point that almost none of the postings to this site are out of the mainstream media. It's all stories from the alternative media. I don't like this development because it means that the right of center readers of this site are in the process of putting themselves in a cocoon similar to the one that left wingers have always inhabited. It leads to self deception. This seems to be happening all across the right wing media sphere. The most striking result of this that I've seen so far was the way in which conservative commentators as a group miss-called the 2012 election. The lack of perspective and self awareness that has long characterized the left is growing on the right also. It's not a good thing. We are becoming a nation of two groups that share almost nothing in terms of facts, perspective, ideas, or premises.
I would opine the Right wing 'news' outlets has existed in their own little world since their conception. The cocoon is just being remodeled. There are already many 'faithful' who use only their self stroking 'news' sources for information.
The two slaughtered teens who's only fault was a FREE ZIMMERMAN bumper sticker that was recently posted in here comes to mind, I'm sure a even handed fella such as yourself can come up with other right wing got it wrong but was believed because it fed the right wing ideology bull dog examples by the penny packet.
The Right wing is no immune to ego and the desire of these attention whores to out do each other with market share- Limbaugh, Coulture, Beck, Savage, O'Rielly et al have deep roots in the 'Conservosphere'.
Getting it wrong in 2012 cut across the 'conservoappratik' from pollers (Rasmussen gets a Razzie for their predictive powers) to talking heads- who can forget Rove's little fit on Fox Noise of all places?
I don't see the self deception changing- it is born out of hyper partisanship and I don't see that changing until the hyper partisans are thrown under the national bus.

That the right wing media has been partisan all along is not in dispute. But until relatively recently it wasn't possible for people to immerse themselves in that to the exclusion of all else. For the left, of course, immersion in an exclusively liberal media has been standard operating procedure for so long that most of them can't imagine anything else. They regard the appearance of a conservative voice in the media as somehow improper.
Just a thought here. One can drown in a bucket of water- one can immerse they little selfs in drive-time limbaugh, Fox noise and trolling the right wing blogs which pass as news for so many. I have observed the more radical right the viewer the more 'liberal' the media appears. Most of that I put down to the radical right expects to see their opinion coming out of a national reporter's mouth.
Karl Rove's little snit didn't even fly on Fox Noise. Can you imagine Limbaugh calling a young lady a slut and demanding to video tape her having sex if birth control is included in healthcare insurance on a major network????
The main stream media maybe left of center but they are not exclusively liberal, and what many call a 'conservative' voice on the far right the rest of us call a wing nut.
Just a thought here.
If you look at the core of each party's platform they are really not that far apart. If you define "center" as that narrow patch of ground that separates them, then being on either side of center, ever so slightly, has a TREMENDOUS influence.
The problem with that is that the country has always been center right.I believe the two parties are very similar but it is not very accurate to think the slight left of center being near as influential as the wildly hard right elements in the GOP. Far more than the 'liberal' media's influence was the 47%, women as mothers but no mention of CEOs at the convention, abortion issues, military spending all drive the voter choice than what lean the reporter has.
IF the slightly left of center reporters had this 'tremendous' influence then no GOP Presidential candidate should have ever won... the first BushII contested vote should have won heavy for Gore instead of the protracted fight in Florida.
just a thought here...eace

Pretending the rightwing noise machine, with its huge network of rightwing think tanks grinding out junk science, it's talking weirdo heads, and its Fox News, all back by billionaires like Murdoch and the Koch Brothers, is equivalent to Daily Kos, shows just how deluded conservatives have become.
