The REAL sin of "Dukes of Hazard": OVER 300 1968-71 Dodge Chargers destroyed making the show!

I am watching the end of "Christine" right now, and I became curious as to how many '57 Plymouth Fury's they destroyed making that film in 83. I looked it up, and it was between 22-28. But, they said it was so difficult to find 57 Fury's, that they actually used some 58's, as well as some Plymouth Belvederes, and Plymouth Savoys of the same year!

Then I thought about Dukes of Hazard. I knew they went through a lot of 1969 Chargers making that weekly show, but I assumed the number to be 50-70 or so(which is freaking horrendous enough)! But it was actually much, MUCH worse than that!

They destroyed over 300 Dodge Chargers! They constantly had employees running all over hell and creation looking to buy more Chargers. It got to the point where they flew around in airplanes searching for them! Back in 1979-85, regular Chargers were just (cool looking)used cars that weren't particularly expensive, maybe $1,000-$1500 for a nice one.

But it became so difficult to find them in later seasons, that they had to start using 1968 & 71 models, with minor details changed to make them look like 69's(grille, headlights). They got really desperate later, and used a few AMC Ambassadors to fill in! John Schneider (Bo Duke) recently sold his General Lee at auction for 10 MILLION DOLLARS! The average price for a 1969 Charger with a 440 in modern times, is $50,000....

Let's see, 300 × $50,000 = $15,000,000...
That still doesn't seem like enough. I'm a Ford guy, but 300 1968, 69 & 71 Dodge Chargers are priceless in my book!

My recent f150 was $55,000. My how.things.have changed

$4000 is a lot of money for 1970. I used to own a 1966 Chevy stepside, short bed pickup from 1995-97, that I drove exclusively as a work truck. It's sticker price in 1966 was something like $1,700 I believe.

They drove Chargers in that show? I always thought it was a Challenger. I’m thoroughly ashamed of myself since I’ve owned Challengers since 2013.

I know, it's despicable what they did to those cars.
You do realize that these days a lot of this is SFX so far fewer precious classics get destroyed.

For all the MoPar fanatics out there...

Yeah, Chargers were mid sized sedans, whereas Challengers(and Barracudas, 'Cudas) were smaller "pony cars", which were directly designed to compete against Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds.
