The pro-freedom, anti-authoritarian, anti-mandate party is banning books, abortions, criminalizing the LGBTQ and taxing the poor.

All of this stuff is happening RIGHT NOW within the Republican party and is championed by the conservative movement. The Republican party and the voters who enable them are legit monsters and are becoming more monstrous with each passing day. Just remember that whenever someone complains about masks, vaccines, or complains about the 'authoritarian' Democrats and Canadian liberals. Librarians are being criminalized for having books which teach sex education, Republican states are restricting access to abortion, limiting voting rights for minorities with 'surgical precision', in addition to their standard policy agenda of robbing the poor to finance the rich.

The religious uprising. They want America to be a religious country like they have in the middle east. God makes our laws, not our president. God, White, Guns and Civil War. Quite the platform, the 24' election run should be a shit show of fake religious encouraging violence in the name of their lord and savior. Expect a little home grown terrorism, which is their version of the new war on libs. Great!

I must say, I didn't think America would digress this much but, with Trump and the pandemic Q Anon bullshit catching on in the Republican party it looks like the 1950's out there. Bigotry and all.

Too bad they didn't include the financial side of the 50's, when big business paid their fair share of taxes.

This is all part of the glorious democratic process. If you don't like it move to Somalia.

If what the Republicans are doing is unconstitutional I suggest you take it to the supreme court.

Ain't democracy grand?

Republicans want to corrupt every step of the democratic process. The OP outlines just one example of that.

This is very disrespectful to the democratic process.

It's important to remember that the only rights trans people have are those granted to them by the government via the democratic process. Doctors are also under state control via regulatory government licensing schemes. Hence any decisions regarding "gender affirming care" are collective decisions - not individual. In states like Texas and Idaho, the people have spoken (via their duly elected representatives) regarding this issue. In a democracy, you are free to disagree, but you must obey the will of the majority. If you don't like it, then I suggest you "rock the vote" until a majority of people agree with your point of view.

There!

Right there the absurd right shows its true colors. "Amrika! Love it or leave it."

Closed door. Closed mind. Sealed. Hermetically.

Revealed in these debates as they insist Canada is a fascist country! (That's ridiculous, handling out tickets after three weeks of lawlessness, money laundering, prostitution, drugs and lots of hassle - 3 weeks. Trump needed tear gas to walk across the street.)
Clearly there is no room for reason, just rage. Others have tapped into this rage, and chaos, war, torture & famine.
What slays me is that they are mirroring the crowd of zealots who chanted "crucify him!"2000 years ago.
And insist they are followers of Jesus who preached: "my only commandment to you is to love one another so all will know they are followers of me."
These guys always forget the other side prays too!

Leveraging the power of government to strip the rights of citizens, burn books, and criminalize distributors of literature is pretty much the definition of authoritarianism. By the way, the proposed laws criminalize parents seeking LGBTQ guidance for a child out of state.

Where is @Fletch

Exactly everything they accuse the democrats of doing, they are doing themselves and then some. All they talk about is freedom and they are systematically taking away freedoms from the ones that vote for them.

How do we do that when the court has been stacked by a cheater in the senate and a liar in the WH? You're asking us to do the impossible.

Im right here. Do you need me to help with your melt down?

Are you claiming democracy can be authoritarian?

All of the justices have been nominated by the president and were confirmed by the senate. Sounds to me like what you really object to is the democratic process itself.

By any chance were you in Washington D.C. on Jan 6, 2021?

Nazi Germany started out as a democracy.

Actually, the Supreme Court is an undemocratic institution, since the appointments are unaccountable to the voters.

Im right here. Do you need me to help with your melt down?

Absolutely. Why aren't you screaming, 'AUTHORITARIANSISM!" for the Republican party like you do with Trudeau and Biden? Could it be that you actually don't care about authoritarianism and top-down government oppression?

Yeah..how dare they prevent parents from transporting their minor child out of state to get life-altering & irreversible surgeries/treatments.

Hormone therapy is preceded by a years-long process of psychological assessment and evaluation administered by actual experts, not right-wing lawmakers with the intellectual and moral integrity of Louie Gohmert, pandering to a religious base waiting for the Return of Jesus.

Who's burning books?

Who's burning books?

The conservative movement. Both literally...

...and figuratively...

The republicans are pro freedom/antiauthoritarian like the DPRK is democratic and the Nazis were socialist.

That is to say "not at all".

Nazi Germany started out as a democracy.

That's nice, but you didn't answer my question. You said Republicans using the power of government to "strip the rights of citizens, burn books, and criminalize distributors of literature is pretty much the definition of authoritarianism."

All of this is occurring in a democracy. Do you therefore agree that democracy can be authoritarian?

Actually, the Supreme Court is an undemocratic institution, since the appointments are unaccountable to the voters.

Great, so you must also agree that the progressive regulatory state is also an undemocratic institution, since the heads of the EPA, ATF, DEA, SEC, etc, are all appointed and therefore unaccountable to the voters, correct?

Representing ever bigger government instead of limited government that they lie about. Very fascist dictatorship I'd say====== phonies in the largest sense of the word.

That's nice, but you didn't answer my question.

Actually, I did. I said that a democracy can be leveraged into a fascist dictatorship. Citizens volunteer to give up more and more rights for the sake of ideological and cultural convenience.

You said Republicans using the power of government to "strip the rights of citizens, burn books, and criminalize distributors of literature is pretty much the definition of authoritarianism."

Correct.

All of this is occurring in a democracy. Do you therefore agree that democracy can be authoritarian?

Well, define democracy. There are no pure democracies, and in America it's legal to bribe elected politicians. Which is a coopting of the democracy process, as the politicians are not obeying the will of the people. In fact, the conservative movement has been trying to shift government power from the people to corporations since the 1970s, and today America is among the most corrupt nations on the planet because of it.

As I said in the previous response, a fascist and authoritarian movement can exist and grow within a democracy. Turkey is an example of a democracy volunteering to become an authoritarian state. The people were duped into giving up all their power to Erdogan, and they cannot reclaim it after doing so. So its no longer a democracy.

The modern fascist movement that is embodied in the Republican party is DEFINITELY pro-authoritarian, and even though they are a minority, they've manipulated the process so that they have oversized power. For example, the Republicans would never win another federal election without the Electoral College. In addition, conservative states are overrepresented in congress. The American system was designed to give conservatives disproportionate power, which is again undemocratic, since most of the population is overwhelmingly liberal or progressive.

In a larger sense, a democracy cannot be authoritarian since authoritarianism is the consolidation of power into the hands of the few or one. The few or one controlling the lives of the majority is definitionally anti-democratic.

Great, so you must also agree that the progressive regulatory state is also an undemocratic institution, since the heads of the EPA, ATF, DEA, SEC, etc, are all appointed and therefore unaccountable to the voters, correct?

Um, the Executive Branch has enormous control over the EPA, for example, which is ultimately subject to rulings of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court is now full of extremists who operate outside of the democratic process entirely, which is why the constitutionality of abortion rights, voting rights, and even civil rights are now in jeopardy.
