The post office backed off, but the damage is already done
The Senate questioning of DeJoy on Friday will be a GOP pro-forma affair as always. They simply either don't care or are too terrified of Trump to press the issue.
The real meat and potatoes questioning of DeJoy will occur in the Dem controlled House next week.

Under intense scrutiny, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy halted changes that were said to be slowing mail ahead of the November election. DeJoy said that some of the deferred decisions mean that retail hours at post offices will not change, mail processing equipment and blue collection boxes will remain in place and no mail processing facilities will be closed. This will not be the end of the story.
• Democrats accusing the administration of active sabotage. That doesn't go away with a news release.
• What will happen in court? There are something like 20 lawsuits by state attorneys general percolating in and around the courts. Those should equal some interesting developments.
• Can everything be unwound? It's not at all clear that the changes the US Postal Service has undertaken -- removal of sorting machines, for instance -- can be unwound by Election Day.
• Trust but verify. Or just verify. It's easy to look at DeJoy backing down and say that if this was an attempt to sabotage USPS and hand the election to President Donald Trump, it was ham-handed. But let's make sure the mail arrives on time.
There are still real questions about how long it will take ballots to reach voters and get back again. The message people who want to vote by mail need to take away from all of this is simple: Vote early. Democrats are continuing to push for an urgent $25 billion bailout for USPS. Republicans have sounded more open to $10 billion. Confidence that votes for president will be accurately cast and counted has dropped significantly since 2016, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.
