How many miles of border wall have been built and how much paid for by Mexico? How many days has Trump been on the golf course when he said he would never golf as president? How many lies has Trump spouted to his supporters? How close are we to eliminating all federal debt "within 8 years"? Where is that 3% GDP? And countless other questions...

But really....who cares? That is the only question that matters. Half the country seems to care a lot and the other half not at all. Indifference to reality is the newest and most potent weapon of the right. The folks who could not stand "Happy Holidays" now only seem outraged when FOX tells them the Democrats did something they would undoubtedly excuse Trump for in a heartbeat. E.g. Pelosi rips up speech = SHE IS RIPPING UP CHILDREN! Trump rips up speech = Meh.

In a normal world the narratives of a presidential impeachment could not be more different. A perfect phone call and witchhunt/hoax versus coercing a foreign government to interfere in our elections? Really?

We are no longer one country. What do you do when half the country cares more about winning than the truth?

The problem is considerably deeper that you say -- that half always changes depending on who's in power.

I only just finished watching the entire SOTU on YouTube and finally seeing what Pelosi did, I honestly don’t think it was that big of a deal. In fact, it was kind of a fitting reaction of the head Dem in charge after such a pro America speech.

Funny you think both halves don't care more about winning than being effective.

That is an excellent question and one that has no simple answer.

Power trumps truth, pun intended. This is the motto of the fascist right and the progressive left. They have no interest in ensuring that their positions correspond with reality. When these inconsistencies and lies are pointed out, those two camps attack the messenger as if they were a barbarian at the gates. This is why the fascist right whines about the "fake news media" and the progressive left whines about the "establishment media." Nothing that passes their respective purity tests is allowed in.

You will note a marked absence of introspection by both groups. Never do you see any of them admit, "Hmm, this thing our leader is doing, he may be going to far with this." Never. Absolutely never. The Dear Leader, whether it is Sanders or Trump, is absolutely right, and anyone who offers the slightest critique of them is absolutely wrong. The only two differences between these two cults is (1) their enormously different stances on economics and (2) the Sanders cult does not have the votes to win anything beyond the occasional deep blue Congressional seat.

Good people get caught in bad cults. I have no doubt that there were a lot of good people in Jonestown. And Heaven's Gate. And the Branch Davidians. But people who are in cults need to stop insulating themselves and start recognizing that their tribe does not have all the answers, that there is a whole world out there where more answers lie. This world is a beautiful, messy world, where truth is hard to come by, but it is there for those who really care to find it.

That kind of commitment to finding the truth and nothing but the truth is the only way we're getting out of this mess.

A better question is this: What do you do when more than half of Congress is more interested in opposing and removing the President than in helping him accomplish all those things you complain that he hasn't done?

Still talking about Oblama I see..

With everything you said in mind and knowing that you support democat ideology for the most part, is there anything you are willing to admit that trump and the gop are correct about?

In a way, I'm glad you said what you said, because it helps make my point for me. It is a very common response to criticisms about Sanders and Trump. It followed a predictable pattern:

(1) Make zero acknowledgement about the major flaws within one's own cult that were mentioned.
(2) Distort the positions of those outside the cult (ex., "democrat ideology").
(3) Beg for acknowledgement of any correctness of that cult.

BTW, if you're really desperate, you can find my acknowledgement in post #66 here: Was Trump right to say USA will never be socialist?

What exactly did he not do? Even the GOP has conceded he withheld military aid to Ukraine to elicit them to investigate the Bidens. The facts were not really in contention by the time it reached the Senate, only whether an abuse of power that was not a crime and had not led to significant consequences rose to "high crimes and misdemeanors". There are some people who still argue Trump did nothing wrong but they are like that lady who thought Obama was going to buy her gas.

It was petty bull**** and that was about it, presuming we want to make ado at all about it. The reaction was over the top to put it mildly. After thinking about it awhile, it seems to me, to be a reaction to the over the top bull**** stunts the Dems have played. Kind of ironic if you think about it. Its a typical Democratic party tactic. The whiny bitchy little girl act is not becoming of my side (Trumps not the Republicans). I could do without it. However there is something to be said of turnabout is fair play. I do like turnabout. I am of two minds on this.

Why would you make me sift through 66 posts instead of just saying here that you agree with Trump about socialism?
I was attempting, desperate or otherwise to diminish anything you said, it was just a question.

Give it up. Trump was acquitted.

Didn't you get the memo yet?

Obama isn't president anymore.

Oh I am sorry I fell asleep what with the Congress opposing whatever president is in power....In other words they do it all the time..Rather drole..
