We're not participating in the war, but we're gabbing about the war. And the war has been an inflection point. It has a lot of similarities to T**** being president (it will always be hard to believe that T**** was president, so to speak); with the biggest one being: We've been divided into camps. Another big way is: It's put people's ethics in 'stark relief.'

I just thought of what to add to this thread besides the above observation. I think this three-week war has shown what some people's beliefs about war and life really are. And it's shown how serious (or not) their commentary is.

Most people's commentary is either not serious, or poorly thought out/through. I won't say why I say that's true, now. I ask you: Is your commentary ever serious? Is your commentary (especially about Ukraine) well thought out/through?

Some of you comments seemed to argue we should do away with our nukes while the other side still has them.

That a!so isn't well thought out.

The entire world needs to disable their nuke weapon systems and nuke power systems. If my memory serves me well without nuke power there are no nuke weapons.

Nuclear disarmament has always been through talks and treaties. Humanity could add a strong enforcement mechanism, too. As in: We could force nuclear weapons to be abolished.

Who is against that?

No?

Let me guess: you're going to be the judge of fellow member's commentary.

No thanks.

But of course we've been discussing the war in Ukraine. This is a political discussion forum, and war is political. Do you suggest we ignore it?

What is it you're trying to say?

I’ve read a lot of really thoughtful commentary on the topic here. I think this paints with an overly broad brush

If you don't want my assessment, then why did you ask for it?

I'll just ignore your question (that included the word 'ignore'), then.
It was rhetorical as I already knew your answer.

Like cancer?

Great question. I believe that I've heard that cancer has been found in ancient human remains. I'm going to guess that the cancer rate could be drastically reduced but not completely eliminated, yet (maybe never).

With what leverage?

How about crime? What's the way we solve it?

I'd call that a straw man rhetorical question.
You should google "straw man" because you apparently do not know what it is.

First, note that there aren't likely perfect solutions.

The best way to drastically reduce crime would be to drastically increase the distribution of well-being. No, I don't mean socialism.

I don't need to search for nor peruse the definition of 'straw man' because I already had and I know that 'misrepresentation' is a major component of a straw man argument.

There are simply not solutions for some things.

Like rape.
