I have heard that the wealthy find ways to pay very little in taxes.

But I have also heard that here in California, the wealthy are responsible for paying the majority of taxes.

I suspect that the really wealthy people should be paying more than they currently are.

Hear tell that some rich people object to paying more taxes because they fear their money will be wasted on bad projects (for example, giving free cellphones to undocumented immigrants or paying off the college loans given to university students).

First, "gayness" isn't running rampant and there's not a republican that thinks being gay is something that should be fought against. Just as those on the left don't want teachers to push a religious agenda in the classroom, the right doesn't want them pushing an alternative lifestyle agenda either. Those issues don't belong in the classroom, they are issues that are up to parents to decide upon and choose whether or not to discuss with their children.

In spite of the rhetoric coming from bozos on the left, not wanting men (human beings born with a penis and balls) to compete in women's sports, and not wanting men (human beings with a penis and balls) to be allowed in women's locker rooms, is simple common sense based on biology and human nature.
