They won't admit it but I suspect most conservatives believe God whispered the constitution into Madison's ear. Any interpretation that varies from theirs is heresy and must be suppressed. All othe countries would be improved by adopting the US constitution. Any American who denies that the constitution is the perfect document to build a nation on is an apostate.

as Professor Amar (Who holds the most prestigious legal scholarship position in the USA) noted, its the US constitution that is the reason why there is so much democracy around the world.

Actually, I liked the quote that started this line of discussion- liberals read the constitution like christians read the bible.

Conservatives read the constitution the way Muslims read the Koran.

Yeah, that's a pretty terrible come back. Not only do most Muslims ignore large chunks of their faith like Christians do, but actually obeying the word of what you're attempting to follow is really the only proper way to do it. If you start saying things like "shall not be infringed" and "congress can pass no law" means the exact opposite, well, yeah, you're not following what you claim to be.

Yeah, I know. You and a couple others that don't like the way the word sounds. Somehow 'liberal' got all tangled up with progressive and socialist and everything else conservatives hate. I blame the two-party system. You need a shelter for your poor, homeless socialists. When I say congress can pass no law towards a list of things it doesn't just magically mean that congress can indeed pass law towards those things under certain conditions that the court will decide on later. If I say that the right to bear arms shall not be infringed that doesn't mean that it's ok to ban some arms or ban some people from access to arms.
