If the enormous pressure on Russia the world is bringing to bear results in those close to Putin taking him out of power and ending the war, our leader of democracies, including the US, seem likely to get credit, as JFK did, for 'finding a middle way to end a crisis' while avoiding nuclear war.
If the pressure does not, if a result similar to Serbia happens where the wrong war continued for years, the aggressor remained in power for years, and Putin continues to destroy Ukraine - it looks like likely he won't quit by his choice - and remains in totalitarian power, a political backlash with furious publics looking to blame leaders for not doing enough and 'losing the war' seems entirely possible if not very likely, with elections replacing them.
