I was just wandering if there is people that took a more conservative stance after the heavy lgbt/woke propaganda.

I was uninterested in these issues but after years of "pervasive pressure" i felt that a kind of "soft totalitarianism" was taking control of the West thought.

That made me became consevative.
Before i was more or less a "political bystander"

Yes. The need to kick the trans crazies off our coattails before we lose everything we fought for because of them has required that I adopt a more conservative position.

Indeed. Less than 10 years ago, over 50 corporations boycotted North Carolina because it passed a bathroom bill. At the time Trump said he had no problem with transgenders using bathrooms of their choice. But a relentless right-wing anti-trans propaganda campaign has succeeded in turning more Americans, especially conservatives, against them.

The propaganda has been very effective. Never have so few been so strongly detested.

There's something hilarious, if a bit morbid, about this idea that progressive liberal politics annoyed America into banal populist authoritarianism.

Some folks do have an extremely difficult time accepting responsibility for their own bigotry.

Lets be honest: pretty much no one is good at self reflection, much less taking a critical stance of oneself during periods of self reflection. I know many progressives who believe in all of the right things and then proceed to live totally dysfunctional and antisocial lifestyles.

I think there's a lesson to be learned here. Progressives drove people away much in the same way the church did: annoying, hypocritical moralizing. The progressive message became stale, uncool, cringe, etc. Time to start thinking of some new ideas!

"I wasn't a bigot! Left wingers saying that gay and trans people are people too and should have fully equal rights MADE me hate them!"

Kinda like Mel Gibson claiming alcohol made him anti-semitic. That's just not how it works.

Of course.
That pesky preaching the value of empathy, ethics and humane treatment of all just grates on my nerves as well.

After almost 10 years of Trump you should know by now that politics in democracy has nothing to do with gushy stuff like empathy and ethics - it's all PR baby.

And if your PR is perceived as just being gay moralizing, then you're going to lose. Even to a literal orange retard.

You are so right.
We all need to stop advocating for inclusion, fairness, empathy and ethical/moral fortitude.

It just rubs too many people the wrong way.

Thank you for explaining it to me in such a concise, comprehensible fashion.

I've grown so much in the last few years and learned many things. For example, people who have served in the army for a decade or more without a problem must now be booted out. Thank God we weren't attacked or we would have lost the war.

Poor women in states where abortion is banned are left with few options. Middle-class and wealthy women are free to travel out of state for an abortion because abortion is only murder if you're poor. I never knew that.

Everyone will be better off when we trim billions of dollars from Medicaid and food stamps because 250 foot yachts are for losers. Tax cuts will give the uber-rich the 300 foot yachts they deserve.

We need to argue that it is the smart and only way forward. Pritzker put it well.

"Empathy and compassion are evolved states of being. They require the mental capacity to step past our most primal urges. This may be a surprising assessment because somewhere along the way in the last few years, our society has come to believe that weaponized cruelty is part of some well-thought out Master plan. Cruelty is seen by some as an adroit cudgel to gain power. Empathy and kindness are considered weak. Many important people look at the vulnerable only as rungs on a ladder to the top. I'm here to tell you that when someone's path through this world is marked with acts of cruelty, they have failed the first test of an advanced society. They never forced their animal brain to evolve past its first instinct. They never forged new mental pathways to overcome their own instinctual fears. And so their thinking and problem solving will lack the imagination and creativity that the kindest people have in spades. Over my many years in politics and business, I have found one thing to be universally true. The kindest person in the room is often the smartest."

I'm interpreting this as some form of high human capital liberal eugenics, which I support enthusiastically!

What "heavy lgbt/woke propaganda"?

Damn if you didn't hit the nail on its proverbial head with that one!

Well said, my actual friend!

I know a few massively conservative parents that became less conservative after they found out one of their kids was gay.

Although I do admit that I have one cousin who is still massively conservative and massively against gay people even though one of his kids is gay.

Can’t grasp how accepting individuals for who they are is such a difficult concept for some people.

Maybe people have no problem to accept other people, as long as they aren't forced to accept an "ideology" that impose to comply to a "set of speech/thought rules" .

If you became right wing because people were mean to you on the internet, that tells me you never really thought through your positions and probably were heading there anyway. I try to not let my enemies have that much control over me.

You arent forced. You probably dont meet many trans people in your life. I was nearly banned from a forum before i became more fully aware of trans issues but did i sit like a baby and cry about tyranny? No it felt bad for a while but then i moved on.

Of course… just what i need more people telling others they are unfit to live…
