WASHINGTON -- Oh, well, if studies say so. The great secret is out: liberals dominate campuses. Coming soon: ``Moon Implicated in Tides, Studies Find.'' One study of 1,000 professors finds that Democrats outnumber Republicans at least seven to one in the humanities and social sciences. That imbalance, more than double what it was three decades ago, is intensifying because younger professors are more uniformly liberal than the older cohort that is retiring.

Another study, of voter registrations records, including those of professors in engineering and the hard sciences, found nine Democrats for every Republican at Berkeley and Stanford. Among younger professors, there were 183 Democrats, six Republicans.

But we essentially knew this even before The American Enterprise magazine reported in 2002 of examinations of voting records in various college communities. Some findings about professors registered with the two major parties or with liberal or conservative minor parties:

Cornell: 166 liberals, 6 conservatives.

Stanford: 151 liberals, 17 conservatives.

Colorado: 116 liberals, 5 conservatives.

UCLA: 141 liberals, 9 conservatives.

And yet conservatives now dominate the political landscape. These liberal professors have to increase the mind control and pronto!

Hum, educated people tend not to be conservatives. Yeah, that makes sense.

There have been recent studies out, that I read about a few months ago, saying that the areas that guniuses lack skill in is critical thinking. This means that even the most intellegant people in the world have a hard time understanding politics. :boom

There are studies that show genuises lack skills in "critical thinking?" Who did these studies? Where have they been published? If intelligent people can not understand politics, does that mean only idiots can comprehend them? Somehow the logic of your post escapes me.

I always thought it was the genuises that lacked common sense. And common sense has nothing to do with REAL politics.

Most of politics is human interpetation of a reaction or statement.

Really, when you get down to it, it's all about common sense. Which is why we're running out of oil in this country. Nobody checked our oil level. See most of our oil is in California, Texas and Alaska and all our dip sticks are in Washington D.C.

Good thing.

Had the level been mostly conservative, most folks would only do as they were told. But hey, Americans have proven to be more interested in form than function.

No wonder they'll listen to anything you find they wish to hear.

Ender,

Welcome to Debate Politics! :wcm

As far as the levels go, it sure does concern me that college kids are getting innundated with liberalism.

While there is indeed nothing wrong with liberalism, it's if the majority were to go that route we would be solcialists in no time.

I am starting to think that it's a good thing to have a mix of both liberal and convervative values divided up amoung the generations. With these numbers, it doesn't look like tommorrow will have many conservatives.

Does anybody see a correllation between our campuses now and the ones of the Vietnam era. If you were a grad student in college in 1970, you would be about 23-24 years old. That means that those same people are now about 53-54 years old.

The people who were the primary source of protestors in the Vietnam era were, suprise!, college students. People who did not protest the war or didn't care were in Vietnam or at home. Those same college protestors are now our college professors.

Fortunately, the smartest among us know never to take any message at face value. Thus there will always be people at colleges who are smart enough to evaluate something with an objective, non-biased viewpoint. Those same people will recognize that these professors are leaning left, and it will become known and people will not take them seriously.

When a sociology teacher plays a Micheal Moore movie in class and calls it an "educational documentary", that's when we know we have a serious problem.

Do you take for an idiot? Why do you always question my word? I rarely make false accursations, then again, why should I trust your judgement, you are just an idiotic liberal. (I don't really thing you are idiotic, I'm just trying to get a point across).

I'm not taking you for an idiot. I'm taking you to task. If you make statement like "studies show" you really should quote, at a minimum, who did the study. When possible it's nice to have a link to the study so others can go read the data. This way people can verify that what you're saying the data says is actually what it says. I'll give you an example.

Take your freind Ann Coulter. In her book, Slander, on page 118 she writes that when the media consortium study on the 2000 Florida vote was released, it showed "that Bush had won on any count." But the story she cited as the source for that info was from the Washington Post. And when you go look that story up you'll find it doesn't say that at all. In fact the title of the article is "Study Finds Gore Might Have Won Statewide Talley Of All Uncounted Votes." When you read the article it clearly says that due to the courts halting of the count there's no way to know who won, but by all data available Gore was leading in the recount.

This is why I call you to task to provide you sources. And why, when possible I include them in my post.

And just so you know- it's alright if you think I'm an idiot, you'd be in good company I'm sure. And I guess at this point I might be willing to own the liberal label, though not very willingly, as there's a lot wrong with that movement. See I think there's things wrong on both ends of the spectrum, alas only I am right.

It's not personal. That is what debating is all about. Everyone has an opinion, if we can prove with some stats that our opinion is the only one that makes sense - then we just might convince or be convinced.

About time. :)

Well if there's only going to be two options. I'm still not joining either party.

The wave of change is flowing through this country and a new voice will be heard that opens the consicousness of the masses to awaken to this moment and realize that we can live harmoniously together and in right relationship with everything around us.
