The Latest: 1,200 Alabama students home after positive test

MOULTON, Ala. — More than 1,200 students at two Alabama schools will begin the year at home after a person connected with both schools tested positive for COVID-19.

While 12 other Lawrence County schools planned to begin traditional classes Wednesday, Superintendent Jon Bret Smith told the Decatur Daily that students from the elementary and middle schools in Moulton, located in north Alabama, would start the academic year taking classes online.

Education officials learned Monday that a person linked to both schools had tested positive for the disease caused by the coronavirus. State health officials recommended delaying the reopening by two weeks. Combined, the schools have more than 105 workers.
School officials notified 10 people who were in contact with the person. Computers are being distributed for online classes.

Fortunately, or so it appears, this was discovered before any of those kids were actually exposed. Keep your fingers crossed.

 One person tested positive..... ONE person...

Their sacrifice will help Trump lose the election come November.

Distance learning until this **** ends. The lung damage might be permanent. This is not a drill.

Welcome to Fall 2020. Schools will open in fits and starts and quickly shut down again as the virus spreads through the student population. This is what Trump has to look forward to in November. An election amidst an absolute chaos of schools shutting down all over the country with dead children in the headlines and no coherent plans to reopen.

Welcome to the world of misleading headlines.

 One person tested positive..... ONE person...

How many would have you preferred to see positive before something was done?

send that one person home.

So all the people that one person already had contact with can continue to spread it?

That's genius. You should be running the CDC.

It was inevitable

Moreover, with the use of the word "person" as opposed to "student" or "child," indications are that this was an adult.

Add to the fact the report states that person is "linked" to both schools reinforces the idea it is an adult, perhaps a school official.

People need to realize that like the Flu, this disease is going to be both pervasive, and not going to go away.

That kids will be exposed and will get it. However, that even if they get it, much like the vast majority of adults under 70, it does not affect them much, if at all.

Recall that like the Flu, which is a pervasive, annual problem which has killed up to 60,000-plus people per year...even with vaccines? We still let kids go to school.

The OP citation is just more scaremongering.

If I ran the CDC there would be considerably less confusion..

Sure, if you just make stuff up.

This is working out well. What do you guys think?

Well, yes. Dead people aren't confused.

interesting observation you have.
Maybe all who are living with excessive fear and angst are already dead but
they have yet to acknowledge it.

Sounds like someone's been reading Kafka.

Politically speaking, Trump had the golden opportunity of a elected term. He was handed a life and death crisis that he was well positioned to master and show brilliant leadership. All he had to do was let the Pandemic Task Force make recommendations and he ensured their implementation. Simple. He could have been a hero.

No, Trump ran away from the problem. He was a coward. He couldn't do the simple thing: he couldn't listen to others, he couldn't share the stage. He had to make it about him. Well, now it is about him. Its now about how one man screwed up a reasonably simple task to the mortal detriment of 200,000+ American lives (not to mention the residual affect on those that love them). The most egregious incompetence by a sitting president in American history.

Donnie, ya got what you wanted. The pandemic is now about you. You will pay the price for this. Now, in many countries this kind of incompetence can get you executed. We are more civil. We will just vote you out of office and your name will be scoffed for the rest of human history. Make America Great Again? You went in the wrong direction.
