Beirut port blast: Victims' families protest at probe's suspension

Despite families of the victims protesting, the Kleptos happily dimiss the probe, the judge that was supposed to lead the investigation is intimidated by the political establishment coming down on him, accusing him of bias. Not the first judge who is in trouble for dearing to point the finger at the kleptocratic establishment.

I remember the big explosion, but none of the rest of this means much. Is "Klepto" a family name or an insult?

Kleptocrats, as in thieves. The whole Lebanese political system is built around thieves that enrich themselves, and it's impossible to get rid of them due to how the Lebanese political system works.

The Lebanese economic system follows a laissez-faire model. So, if it's legal, or not illegal, it's not thievery. It's what cons/Reps want the American economic system to be, open and free market model with no govt regs.

The Lebanese political system is built on bribes, and people looking the other way when politicians enrich themselves, and that's theft.

Bribery is, actually, illegal in Lebanon. It's just not enforced. Bribes and gifts are widespread practices and an established way of doing business. It permeates Lebanese society. How can that be changed?

Yes it is illegal, it just happens anyways, and political elite fill their pockets and evade all responsibilities. As soon as any judge or prosecutor point any finger on a member of the politcal elite they are promptly fired and the investigation shelved. No one has yet been found responsible for the Beirut blast. As soon as a judge says that maybe, just maybe the politicians that knew about the volatile situation and did nothing are responsible, said judge is fired.

Lebanon need to democratize, get rid of the system that returns same corrupt old men to power every time, and have an actually free democratic system. The system that was built to ensure the peace in the aftermath of the civil war is now 30 years later only ensuring the continuing dominance of a corrupt elite that fills their own pockets and ignores any responsibility to the Lebanese people.
