I just finished reading a book by Joel Richardson who has been Christian evangelist to Muslims since 1994 and his book is entitled The Islamic Antichrist: The Shocking Truth about the Real Nature of the Beast.

As you may already know, according to the Christian Bible there are three big players during end time events--The Antichrist, The False Prophet and Jesus Christ.

Oddly enough, according to Islamic teachings there are also three big players during end time events--The Mahdi, Jesus (called in Islam “Isa”) who returns to the Earth to serve as the Mahdi’s prophet and the Islamic Antichrist (called the “Dajjal”).

Mr. Richardson draws numerous parallels between the Christian version of end-time events and the Islamic version of end-time events particularly among the three big time players. In fact, the Islamic Mahdi would fit the description of the Christian Antichrist, Isa (the Islamic Jesus) fits the description of the Christian False Prophet and the Islamic Antichrist fits the description of the returning Jesus Christ of the Bible.

Or to put it another way:

Jesus Christ (Bible) = Islamic Antichrist,
The False Prophet (Bible) = Isa (the Islamic Jesus),
The Antichrist (Bible) = Mahdi (Islam’s Messiah)

Here are the parallels taken from the book (chapter 18, pages 171-175):

· “Bible: The Antichrist is an unparalleled political, military, and religious leader that will emerge in the last days.
· Islam: The Mahdi is an unparalleled political, military, and religious leader that will emerge in the last days.

· Bible: The False Prophet is a secondary prominent figure that will emerge in the last days who will support the Antichrist.
· Islam: The Muslim Jesus is a secondary prominent figure that will emerge in the last days who will support the Mahdi.

· Bible: The Antichrist and the False Prophet together will have a powerful army that will do great damage to the earth in an effort to subdue every nation and dominate the world.
· Islam: The Mahdi and the Muslim Jesus will have a powerful army that will do great damage to the earth in an effort to subdue every nation and dominate the world.

· Bible: The False Prophet is described essentially as a dragon in lamb’s clothing.
· Islam: The Muslim Jesus comes bearing the name of the one that the world knows as “the Lamb of God,” Jesus Christ. Yet the Muslim Jesus come to murder all those who do not submit to Islam.

· Bible: The Antichrist and the False Prophet establish a new world order.
· Islam: The Mahdi and the Muslim Jesus establish a new world order.

· Bible: The Antichrist and the False Prophet institute new laws for the whole earth.
· Islam: The Mahdi and the Muslim Jesus institute Islamic law all over the earth.

· Bible: The Antichrist is said to “change the times”.
· Islam: It is quite certain that if the Mahdi established Islam all over the earth, he would discontinue the use of Saturday and Sunday as the weekend or days of rest, changing to Friday, the holy day of Islam. Also, he would most certainly eliminate the Gregorian calendar and replace it with the Islamic calendar currently used in every Islamic country.

· Bible: The Antichrist and the False Prophet will both be powerful religious leaders who will attempt to institute a universal world religion.
· Islam: The Mahdi and the Muslim Jesus will institute Islam as the only religion on the earth.

· Bible: The Antichrist and the False Prophet will execute anyone who does not submit to Islam.
· Islam: Likewise, the Mahdi and the Muslim Jesus will execute anyone who does not submit to Islam

· Bible: The Antichrist and the False Prophet will specifically use beheading as the primary means of execution for nonconformists.
· Islam: The Mahdi and the Muslim Jesus will use the Islamic practice of beheading for executions.

· Bible: The Antichrist and the False Prophet will have a specific agenda to kill as many Jews as possible.
· Islam: The Mahdi and the Muslim Jesus will kill as many Jews as possible, until only a few are left hiding behind rocks and trees.

· Bible: The Antichrist and the False Prophet will attack to conquer and seize Jerusalem.
· Islam: The Mahdi and the Muslim Jesus will attack to reconquer and seize Jerusalem for Islam.

· Bible: The Antichrist will set himself up in the Jewish Temple as his seat of authority.
· Islam: The Mahdi will establish the Islamic caliphate from Jerusalem.

· Bible: The False Prophet is said to do many miracles to deceive as many as possible into supporting the Antichrist.
· Islam: The Mahdi himself is said to control the weather and the crops. His face is said to glow. We can also assume that since Jesus is viewed as having been empowered by Allah to work miracles when he was here on earth the first time, he will most likely be expected to continue to do so when he returns.

· Bible: The Antichrist is described as riding on a white horse in the Book of Revelation.
· Islam: The Mahdi is described as riding on a white horse.

· Bible: The Antichrist is said to make a peace treaty with Israel for seven years.
· Islam: The Mahdi is said to make a peace treaty through a Jew (specifically a Levite) for exactly seven years.

· Bible: Jesus the Jewish Messiah will return to defend the Jews in Israel from a military attack from a vast coalition of nations led by the Antichrist and the False Prophet.
· Islam: The Dajjal, the Islamic Antichrist, will gain a great Jewish following and claim to be Jesus Christ; He will fight against the Mahdi and the Muslim Jesus.

· Bible: The spirit of antichrist specifically denies the most unique and central doctrines of Christianity, namely the Trinity, the incarnation, and the substitutionary death of Jesus on the Cross.
· Islam: Islam doctrinally and spiritually specifically denies the most unique and central doctrines of Christianity, namely the Trinity, the incarnation, and the substitutionary death of Jesus on the Cross.

· Bible: The primary warning of Jesus and the Apostle Paul was to warn Christians of the abundance of deceit and deception in the last days.
· Islam: Islam is perhaps the only religion on the earth that practices deceit as one of its tools to assist its own ascendency. It actually has a specific doctrine that allows and even calls for deception to be used to achieve its desired goal.

· Bible: The specific nations pictured in the Bible as part of the final empire of the Antichrist are all Islamic nations.
· Islam: All Muslims are commanded to give their allegiance to the Mahdi as the final caliph and imam (leader) of Islam.

· Bible: From the Bible and history we learn that the final Antichrist empire will be a revived version of the empire that succeeds the Roman empire.
· Islam: The empire that succeeded the Roman / Byzantine empire was the Islamic Ottoman empire.

· Bible: When the Antichrist emerges, a system will already exist that is poised to receive him as a savior and to give allegiance to him.
· Islam: Islam is already the second-largest religion and will at present growth rates become the largest religion within a few decades. Islam awaits the coming of the Mahdi with universal anticipation.”

As you can see the parallels are numerous and unsettling. But what are your thoughts on the matter. Do you believe that Islam will prop-up and support the Antichrist and False Prophet?

Meh.
There is only one Mahdi I believe in:)

Allah called and said, and I quote, Man that guy is full of it.

If I'm interested in Christian theology, I'll look to Christian theology for the answers. If I'm interested in Islamic theology, I probably won't look to a Christian theologist, least of all one who has dedicated his life to evangelising to Moslems. Unreliable witnesses are usually unreliable.

I think you got that wrong. Please, watch this:

People have been trying to interpret Revelations and applying it to their modern realities for hundreds of years...all with the same effect. I think this is a waste of time and is just propagated by self serving religious opportunists seeking to make a buck off of religious fiction narratives by tapping into irrational fears.

It's also possible that Christians and Muslims will recognize the same person as Second Coming of Christ, and the same person as the Antichrist. Now just the Jews would have to recognize this Second Coming of Christ as their long awaited Messiah -- et voilà, all three religions would be the same and united. Happy end! :D

Head...explode :doh

Quoted because it is almost exactly what I was going to say. Incredible that each generation falls for it each time it happens. Some of these Christian authors abide by a higher law than The Bible: "There's a sucker born every minute". And they take full advantage of it.

Old one eye is coming...That was Moe's contribution...

Who got what wrong?

This:

Jesus Christ (Bible) = Islamic Antichrist,
The False Prophet (Bible) = Isa (the Islamic Jesus),
The Antichrist (Bible) = Mahdi (Islam’s Messiah)

It goes like this:

Jesus Christ (Bible) = Isa (the Islamic Jesus)
The False Prophet (Bible) = ?
The Antichrist (Bible) = Dajjal

Not sure about Mahdi, but he seems to be a good guy.

Wow, it's almost like the folks who wrote that stuff in the Quran had a copy of the 7th century version of the bible (which little resembles any versions we have now) and wrote a slight variation on the same story on purpose! Like, maybe people from one religion borrow stuff from other religions. Kinda like how most of Christianity this isn't directly (poorly) plagiarism of Judaism is borrowed from Greek and Roman polytheism. It's not like Islam and Christianity have anything more than superficial differences, and both have only a few significant ones from Judaism. For being 90% the same religion, you'd think they'd spend less time fighting.

Arrakis... Dune. Home of the spice melange.

The spice must flow.

You can make these parrallels with everything, you can make an arguement (if you are going to play as loose with the scriptrues as you are) that Christ is the Anti Christ. You can argue that the United States government is teh AntiChrist ... you can argue so many different things as long as you are allowed to ignore sersious biblical exegesis and just say whatever you want.

It's obvious what you're doing, and it's reprehensible. This isn't serious biblical exegesis, it's a discusting attempted at hate mongering.

Na the closer two groups understand eachother the More they likely they are to fight. It's becuse of, not inspite of, being 90% the same they fight. Where as they could care less about the comeing of Ragnarok and the endless winter that will freeze us all.

That's total nonsense, the 7th cneutry version of the bible is the exact same one we have now ... we have manuscripts of the full new testament from the 300s and they are the same bible we have now, biblican scholars have the same text of the bible that was in the origional text of 97% accuracy .. and thats conservative, the other 3% is almost entirely grammer or spelling stuff.

Muhammad didn't read the bible, he couldn't, and in the Koran it's obvious that the biblical accounts are second hand and not from the biblical texts.

The NT, isn't a plagarism of Judaism ... Its an offshoot of Judaism ....

And the NT doesn't borrow ANYTHING from greek and roman polytheism, Nothing, the writers were all Jews.

There are so many parallels between the Abrahamic religions and other, earlier belief systems that it's often hard to see the differences. Much of the beliefs adopted in the first couple of centuries of the Christian religion mirror the central beliefs of other faiths knocking around at the same time.

"Both Mithras and Christ were described variously as 'the Way,' 'the Truth,' 'the Light,' 'the Life,' 'the Word,' 'the Son of God,' 'the Good Shepherd.' The Christian litany to Jesus could easily be an allegorical litany to the sun-god. Mithras is often represented as carrying a lamb on his shoulders, just as Jesus is. Midnight services were found in both religions. The virgin mother...was easily merged with the virgin mother Mary. Petra, the sacred rock of Mithraism, became Peter, the foundation of the Christian Church."

Gerald Berry, Religions of the World

There is no scientifically provable answer to whether Christianity is a syncretion of earlier religious belief systems. As this site makes clear, there isn't much common ground nor objective base upon which to judge. You cannot subtract the element of faith from the religious believer, nor ask a sceptic to accept that element. The OP seems to want it both ways, to apply pseudo-scientific research to the assessment of revealed wisdom, and yet I would guess he'd ignore the findings of such research when it is applied to demystifying his own revealed wisdom.

Is Christianity an updated retelling of earlier Horus/Mithras myths? Are the endtime mythologies of Christianity and Islam congruent or in opposition? When you extract the element of faith, it is simply impossible to reach a conclusion. Some Evangelicals will believe the thesis of the OP because it plays to their narrative of seeing Islam as heretical and based on the antithesis of their own beliefs.

As a Buddhist it would make no sense for me to analyse the Christian scriptures using the philosophical terms and assumption of Buddhist scripture. Theology, by its very nature is not and cannot be scientific, so why pretend to be able to 'prove' that one religion's beliefs can be understood using the philosophical and scriptural beliefs of another?

But arn't there at least a couple different verisons of the bible? Different translations, different interprataions etc.

And the Bible dosen't take anything from geek and roamn polytheism but Catholism dose. It took multiple gods each incharge of aspect of life and changed them into multiple saints. Took alot of the pegan feastivals and changed them into christan feastivals. Took some of the symbolism and changed it around to mean something else but kept the symbols the same. It's not a point aginst the bible its just how people work. We change the way things to fit our viewpoints. Marxist view history as class struggle and when they look at history they see it there even if the people at the time didn't think so. Early beleivers had local gods etc that clashed with "The Church" and local small priest just incorperated them into Christanity to maintain order and becuse he didn't know anybetter either. So the god of the lake that blessed the crops was changed into a saint that blessed the crops etc.

There are different translations of hte bible ... as there are of any book in history, and yes, there are different interpretations, as there are and can be of ANY book. I was talking about the greek/Hebrew text however.

I was refering to the NT, yes, Catholocism does take from paganism ... And you're right about the church in the early middle ages, or post constantinian christianity.

I was specifically talking about the NT however, but you're right, about the history of the church.

The story of Jesus is a very close retelling of the story of Moses. In fact, the stories of Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Moses, Saul, David, Jesus, and Muhammad all share many common themes. They even share specific phrases in some translations. Even the story of Joseph Smith contains some of these themes and literary nuances.

Theology, by its very nature is not and cannot be scientific, so why pretend to be able to 'prove' that one religion's beliefs can be understood using the philosophical and scriptural beliefs of another?

Cannot be scientific? You're suggesting that it is impossible to understand the contexts in which people wrote down these documents, or the origins of the stories they were writing? I'm not even talking about beliefs. I'm talking about history. I'm talking about cultural interaction.

Na the closer two groups understand eachother the More they likely they are to fight. It's becuse of, not inspite of, being 90% the same they fight. Where as they could care less about the comeing of Ragnarok and the endless winter that will freeze us all.

That's really a shame, I think.

Except for the intentional removal and addition of various parts, re-interpretation according to new cultural norms, translations between multiple languages, and intentional modifications to meet political agendas. The King James version was heavily politicized, and there are plenty of modern versions available heavily influenced by modern Protestant right, especially American evangelicals. Considering that the language we're currently communicating in wouldn't exist in a recognizable form for almost a thousand years after the time we're talking about, it would be completely impossible for the words you're reading now in whatever version of the bible you read to match those from any version then.

Muhammad didn't read the bible, he couldn't, and in the Koran it's obvious that the biblical accounts are second hand and not from the biblical texts.

If such a person existed, if he was illiterate like some people say... He didn't need to personally read it, just know what was in it. Mind you, the Quran has gone through alteration and revision, too. It most likely wasn't written by Muhammad, but rather by his successors. It was certainly edited by his successors.

The NT, isn't a plagarism of Judaism ... Its an offshoot of Judaism ....

What's the difference?

And the NT doesn't borrow ANYTHING from greek and roman polytheism, Nothing, the writers were all Jews.

I'll just pick the easiest one. Is there ever, in a single Jewish text ever written, a mention that the messiah will be a physical descendant of god? Is there even a mention that such a thing is possible? No. The whole father/son thing is 100% from Greek and Roman myth.

Why not learn the history of your own religion? Maybe that will help you understand it better and put it in a context that doesn't require you to dismiss reality. You could still keep the parts that matter to you, like belief in the teachings of Jesus (which are mostly pretty good teachings), without having to think that every single word of a book is true. You can love your neighbor without having to believe in magic.
